For those who dont believe in planting by the sign
I bought 7 of those black trays that have 72 little pockets in them with a clear trey on top. I bought the biggest bag of the high dollar potting soil. and planted in them sweet corn, beans, peas, tomatos
That wasw a month ago, and as yet not one of them has come up.
CAUSE
When I planted them, I looked at the almanac and found the right day, the day I planted was a good sign. What I didnt realize I was a week late, and the RIGHT day, the day it actually was, was the WRONG sign.
Thats 509 set tings with nothing comeing up

I haven't wrapped myself around the reasons behind why there would be a right or wrong day to plant. So, I haven't gotten into it. Others can do what they feel is right, not saying my way is right.
Up here in MN, we have such a short growing season, and typically a wet spring here, and winter goes away so slowly.... But then summer heat comes up so quickly right after....
Any day you can get into the field to do any planting seems to be the right sign to actually plant. I couldn't see sitting around a day or 3 waiting for some book to tell me when I should plant - it will rain on that day, and I will be waiting another week, and soon it is June and I am still waiting to plant......

I think there is something to it, but, like Paul, I generally plant when it's fit.

One of these days when I have enough garden beds, I want to do an experiment planting each crop on both good and bad days according to the moon. I always thought it'd be interesting.

My father used to do everything according to the signs.
One day he told me he didn't think the signs meant anything.
He started doing everything against the signs just to see if there was any difference.
There wasn't.

Bless your heart BILL <>
There is a reason why nothing sprouted.. It could be one of several things, but not because you planted in the wrong sign..The claim is that root crops should be planted in the dark of the moon. Otherwise they will go to tops, and not have good roots that we planted them for. Top crops are the reverse of that.
The moon don't stop them from sprouting.
Are the seeds still in good condition?? If so they were either too cold, or too dry.. If the seeds are starting to get soft and rot, they were too wet, and possibly too cold..
Where did you place your flats, and how warm was the bottom of the flats?? What was your watering method?? Take a few of each type of seeds and place them in a damp paper towel laid in a paper plate on top of your refrigerator (if its above 70 degrees up there..)
see if they aren't starting to sprout in a week or so.

I start my seeds based on the day I have time to get it done AND based upon our expected last frost date. No other science beyond that.
I planted all of the seeds (except for the direct-sow variety) on March 16th. Everything has sprouted nicely.

You tried to start sweet corn in a seed tray? I didn't think it would transplant well. New one on me anyhow.

Well, yeah, but what does that have to do with gardening?

If I did that, the next thing I'd be planting would probably be the neighbors...
I always understood the signs made a difference whether something would thrive or not, not whether it would even sprout. I vote seed problem, too. Last year was warmer here and things started early, this year, even inside the house is colder, so starting seeds isn't going as well.

have to decide if you are going to plant in the ground or in the moon.

I have heard that, if you dance naked during the proper moon sign, that the crops will flourish......
I have found that to be true;
......especially if there is ample water, compost and I keep everything weeded and the soil well mulched.

For those that are new to this .... a few tips.
You will want to weedeat the area and spray for chiggers/skeeters prior to performing this.
Trust me on this.
Same thing with rain dances prior to adorning the butt-flap .... just saying.

The nurseries here sell it that way, comes in a 6 pak. I guess the city gardeners buy it to get a big crop of roasting ears.
