Looking for Weekend Homestead Experience

Does anyone know of place(s) where one can experience hands-on homesteading other than living history museums? Like spending a weekend at a place to learn how out fore-fathers lived. Scott

Jackie Clay in Northern Minnesota has a weekend every year when people come to her homestead. Should be some info at Backwoods Home Magazine, she's a regular contributor there, has a blog on their site. I saw something in their last issue. She's a pretty amazing woman, if you can get to N. Minnesota would be well worth it!

Look for re-inacting encampments. They usually have some of the crafts/skills demoed for the time period. Historical sites will often host a week end celebration. Baker Creek Seeds in Mo has a weekend of fun. IN Mi, there's Tiller's International where you can volunteer and they also host classes, demo's on all kinds of skills.

It takes a lot to impress me , but I was impressed, with the farm tour at Amish Acres, In Nappanee Indiana.

Amish homesteading is about a real, as it gets.

AA is "touristy" for sure, but the farm itself, is real and old school, where the tour guide gave great info, on how to do a whole lot, with very little. Don't go on Sunday, as the Amish are all at church service, so the tour guide will be the only ones there (We could only go on Sunday, but it was still great informative, tour anyway).

Summer, is when there are more demonstrations, etc (also more crowds). We went in the fall, almost nobody else at the farm we just walked and explored, after the tour.

We learned a lot that day and had a great time..

how much are you willing to pay, I have lots of authentic fences that need fixed, gobs of authentic manure to spread, as well a vintage shovel work.

HT's own MullerLaneFarm has had a homesteading weekend every year for the past eight years. I suspect there'll be another one this coming June. It's on our bucket list!
