Terro is Borax or Boric Acid in a sugar syrup.
You can make your own for less money

I like diatomaceous earth. We sprinkled it behind the cabinets and in corners, and haven't seen an ant since.

It won't kill the nest, but it will keep them away.

That is what I do..You can mix it into anything like pancake syrup or jelly...
Be sure you have sweet eating ants, some go for fats..

Then you have to allow them to eat and return to the nest..

Last summer we found a big ants nest in our popup camper. We sprayed what we could see and then I decided to try the borax and sugar thing. Mixed borax and granulated sugar 50/50 and just left a small bowl of it where they could get to it. The next day I found a big pile of dead ants.

That means you used too much Borax.
If you use less, they have time to take it back to the nest and feed the Queen, killing the whole colony

I've used Splenda(sugar substitute) and it worked very well..... 3 hills were dead withing days!
Apparently the stuff is neuro-toxic to ants... they collect it, take it back to the nest and then quite quickly forget what they are supposed to be doing and the colony dies out.

EDIT: sweet and low also works

if you know where the nest s at a bit of soap and a good bit of water works well.

In the house find your moisture source!

When i first heard about it i was stunned to! I then found out that the company that developed it was indeed developing it as an ant poison! It changed direction when they realized they would make more money selling it as a sweetener.
True or not i cannot say but the story is all over the internet
