Installing a weathervane

Ive got a very large weathervane Im wanting to put on my house. Its about 3' tall and 3' long.

Im trying to figure out the best way to mount it securely. I have a metal roof. Looks like a lot of the adjustable roof mounts are made of aluminum which Im not to sure of. Would rather have one made of steel so I dont have to worry about it breaking or twisting and destroying my antique weathervane.

How are weathervanes usually installed on a roof?

Mine didn't come with a mount, so I built my own.

so get a pair of steel strap hinges. adjusts to any roof pitch and can weld the vane to it

Aluminum can be stronger than steel , and won't rust away over time.

I would probably go under the roof and put in a pillow block or other reinforced mount between rafters, then drill into it and caulk and flash. Be SURE to properly ground it. A lightning strike on one can start a fire.
