If You're Considering Buying a "Farm" Gun
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013...ndment-states/
Please consider buying from one of those 42 companies listed in the article. By not selling to law enforcement, these companies are "putting their money where their mouth is" and cutting their bottom line.
Homesteaders are an independent sort (mostly) so this is a good way to support your independence.

I would avoid "Cheaper Than Dirt" as they have been profiteering since the beginning of January, raising prices to 4x the amount they were in December after shutting down for a week

I agree. After Sandy Hook, "Cheaper Than Dirt" made a statement to the effect that they would no longer be selling firearms online. Now they have changed their minds again, I called yesterday and told them not to send me anymore catalogs and told them they had lost my business.

If I was owner of a company, and the managers didn't raise prices when the market price increased, I would be looking for new managers. I hate the word profiteering. People who raise prices of fuel after hurricanes or generators after a blizzard make sure those products are available to those who want them most.

I would agree they are free to profit as much as possible, from any actual or perceived calamity, just as I am free to take my business to those who chose not to take advantage.

Actually they would be breaking the law, both legally and morally.

You gotta be kidding. Outfits that rip people off by taking advantage of them are the scum of the world. Back when we had our big ice storm in 98 the local lumber yard did one of those deals. A guy I worked with had bought all the building materials from these guys years earlier and they ran out of generators just before he got to the counter after standing in a long line. No problem they said, well have more tomorrow and they did at double the price. They did a whole lot of that which was a big mistake in a small town as they went out of business in a couple years. Bad news in a small town travels fast and people have long memories.
As for Cheaper than Dirt I imagine most of their suppliers raised their prices due to the crap storm over guns. There is a big difference between profiteering and simply passing on increased costs.

Actually the suppliers didnt raise prices. One of the items I was looking to purchase was Magpul Pmags which Cheaper than dirt gets directly from the manufacturer. They raised the prices to over 4x retail price. Magpul did not raise prices and has stated repeatedly that they wont even with the increased demand. The Pmags are difficult to find but many places get shipments of them every other week and are still charging retail.

Let us not confuse storm based gouging with a politics driven demand. CT has seen its share of both lately. People have needed gasoline for their gennys; cold houses and warm fridges make life miserable. So far we haven't seen widespread need of sustained gunfire for survival.
If i were a seller, I would probably raise my gun and ammo prices too. I would also like to think I would join the sales boycott to .gov.

f you are shooting an animal get a big enough gun..I have seen too many people shoot an animal and then have to shoot it another 3 or 4 times to make it dead..even with the first shot square in the head.
smaller caliber guns do not kill things dead very often..and if you are using it for protection you gotta have a good size gun that shoots at least 8 or 10 bullets min

At this point point guns and ammo are sky high in price wherever you look. My son, myself and some friends are constantly watching for something to pop up one of us needs in the way of ammo. If we find something we either buy it on the spot and get our money back when we see whoever or tell where we found it.
The math has never worked for me when you add in shipping to buy ammo online. So I have never bought any.
But I have seen where these companies have stopped selling to government agencies and I applaud them for it.
Same as the company that manufactures magazines and components that is facing a state bill causing them to either quit making the hi cap mags or move. From what I hear, they have a place here in TX ready to move to as soon as they know which way the bill goes.
Good on them.

-I just picked up three boxes of American Eagle .38 Special 130gr FMJ ammo. $21 a box! And just a few months ago this stuff was probably no more than $14. But with the way things are going, I'd rather have a few boxes that not be able to get it at all. Hopefully here in a month or so, things will start returning to somewhat normal.

When the price of ammo goes up it doesn't come back down. Even Walmart has raised prices and put limits on the number of boxes you can buy.

After reading the words written by some of those store holders - emotive, misinformed and down right ignorant - I hope they go out of business! They are ONLY doing this to make money out of people - its a marketing gimmick. It is as crude (and as wrong) s those companies that try to make out that they are 'christian' by having the fish symbol on their signs.
I wish people would understand what the 2nd amendment says and means - not the interpretation that they can create their OWN militia!

The government agencies will get their ammo someplace or manufacture their own.The only way companies can gain is to increase sales to people who fall for the rhetoric. This tactic will cost them in the long run if they are being truthfull.

Every year, my town gets together. We decide to give our PD enough money to operate for the year, figure out how much that's going to cost each of us and tax ourselves to make it happen.
The OP's list tells me which companies want to make that more difficult and expensive.
