Anybody have an electric egg cooker they want to sell?
My SO can boil eggs. Really, he can. However, he can become distracted and forget that they are on the stove. Until he hears explosions. And the house is filled with the smell of burning metal and eggshell.
So I thought, rather than try to re-train the old dog, I'll just get him one of those electric egg cookers like we had when I was little, Oster or Sunbeam or like that, which has an automatic shut-off. I bought a brand new one on Amazon, well-reviewed, only to find that it doesn't automatically shut off. I mean, wassup wid dat in this day an' age??
Perhaps you have one hiding in the back of your kitchen cabinet or closet?

Let him clean the pan. That sure helped me remember.

Hi Snoozy...this is Nappy!? I picked up an Egg Genie at Goodwill for my disabled son to use at his apartment. After trying it out ourselves at home, I figured with his visual impairment he couldn't safely puncture the egg shell. It worked okay but is not something we need. It doesn't automatically shut off...a buzzer sounds when time is up. Might not work for your SO either. This is an "EggGenie".

egg
Get him a timer. Not digital, the old kind that twists and dings when it done. I can hear mine anywhere in the house.

He's the kind of guy who will go outside to the shipping container storage shed and load tools for 30 minutes while Rome burns. It's got to be the kind that automatically shuts off.

1. How long does it take to cook an egg?
2. Teach him to stand in one place until it's done

I also have a digital timer... Mine has a clip on the back that turns into a stand AND a magnet. So I set the timer, pull it off the fridge, and hook it to my pocket. That way I can't miss the timer going off because I'm *wearing* it... Then when I turn whatever it is I'm cooking OFF, I pull it off my pocket and stick it back to the fridge.
Like this one...

Fry the eggs. If he can't stand still long enough to do that, you need to drop the S in SO.

Also, are eggs the only thing he walks away from like this?
Do you have a smoke alarm in the kitchen?

Teach a man how to flip a switch on an automatic gadget, and you can snooze for an extra hour every day... "

He has been known to burn the toast unto flames three times in succession.

In keeping with the dangerous husband topic.....
Hubby, who is FINALLY getting back on his feet after surgery to repair his leg (after recovering from broken pelvis and ribs, AND after cracking his wrist three weeks ago because he stood on one leg to shoot a 12 gauge at a squirrel from inside the house), agreed to cook supper last night.
He was frying fish in the Dutch oven on the kitchen range as he always has.
He put the first batch of fish pieces in the hot oil, with the fire on high, and said, "I hope it doesn't boil over." Then, I hear, "EXPLETIVE"
I turn around to see the oil boiling over on the stove top, and he is just standing there watching. I reached past him and turned the burner off. HE PUT IN ANOTHER PIECE OF FISH TO FRY!
I told him that was exactly the kind of safety issue that we are concerned about. I told him he was scaring me. I asked why he put another piece of fish in when it was still boiling over on the stove. He said he had one more piece in that batch.
I said he didn't get to a professional consultant position in the oilfield by being reckless, and now he's being reckless. I said if he doesn't stop, he's going to be wrapped in bubble wrap and duct taped to a chair the rest of his life. (OK, I realize this was strong.)
I told him I wasn't trying to embarrass him, but did he think there was a reason for concern about this and what he thought was happening. He said he'd have to think about it.

Alice, how old is your DH? Has he had any head injuries lately in any of these accidents? He needs a through mental status/ neurological exam, ASAP! Something is NOT right...... Ministroke, brain trauma, dementia setting in, something isn't right. Make him an appointment and drag him if necessary.

Not trying to be mean, but - does the "S" in "SO" stand for "Stupid"?

I vote for the timer plus making him clean up if it makes a mess?
