for those of you in arkansas

Just curious as to what your closest town is. Arkansas is on our short list when I graduate and we get to leave Colorado. I have been thinking that we would like to live somewhere in the triangle of Beebee, Conway and Batesville, but we will have to see. We need to be close enough to a hospital or two for the wife to work and have a few acres for me to do my own thing.

Mostly I was just interested in seeing where the people in the state are located so I can pick their brains.

We have regional hospitals up here in Northern Ar - Marion, Boone, and Baxter counties, the weather is better, taxes are cheaper and so is the land costs. The areas you list are "on the flats" hot, humid, and lots of skeeters!!!

I live on the Buffalo River just north of Marshall. I moved from near Little Rock to get away from the skeeters. Most anywhere in the hills have fewer of them. You can drive thorough Skeeters but your windshield will be a bloody mess after dark.

We would prefer to go closer to Batesville than any of the others. My preference would be to have her within easy distance of 2 or more hospitals so she doesn't become trapped at one if a better opportunity comes along.

Batesville area is beautiful. I live in Faulkner county, plenty of hospitals around and reasonable land.

Anywhere in that area is just great. My SIL started at ER , went to Area agency on aging as a home health care nurse and is currently looking into being a traveling nurse. Health care has a lot of oppurtunites from what I see.

We're just outside Russellville, not far from your chosen area. I didn't like it much when we first moved there, but it has steadily grown on me in the last 8 years and now I love it. Little Rock is an hour away for shopping, Lake Dardanelle and the river are right in Russellville, it's hilly enough to be pretty but flat enough to make farming doable.

Russellville itself is a nice town, very clean and a decent amount of stores. Population is around 25k I think. There's a hospital here (St. Mary's).

You will probably be ok moving to a bigger town like Batesville because there will be other outsiders there as well. I just moved out of Arkansas and I am very grateful to have sold my house and gotten out. I lived near a small town. I couldn't hire any help. I couldn't get a reasonable response out of law enforcement. I just didn't fit in because I wasn't kin to everyone. My experience was bad enough that I won't ever move back. No, I'm not listing all the problems I had...not by a long shot. I'd suggest renting for a while before buying.

Where I live it is the same distance to 2 hospitals. One in Harrison and one in Mounton Home. I have been to both and they are great.

Wow, there are more of you here from Arkansas than I imagined. Like I said, it is on the short list. I wouldn't mind being down around Lake Ouichita, but being up closer to Greers Ferry and the Little Red will suit me just fine as well. Plus White River should make for a nice fishing hole as well.

If you love trout fishing the little red is the best fishing around. Cottor is the trout fishing capital of the world. If you like to fish for other fish the lake at above it (Bull Scholes) is great fishing.
