111 deg on the front verandah

Well, that will teach me, I remember bragging on the forum that it never gets real hot or real cold where I live.
Jee's she's hot today, Its 5pm and still 110.
It doesn't worry us very much, we just camp up with the a/c and read a book.
Its the animals that suffer, mainly the rabbits. We make sure not to have any young ones at this time of year. We put wet blankets over the cages, frozen plastic milk bottles of water inside and have a big sprinkler going all day over the whole Rabbitry. Have to do all yu can eh ?.
The chickens are ok 'cause they are free ranging all day and they just camp up in the bushes. I always make sure there is plenty of water containers around.
The best off is the dog, she is allowed inside on days of extreme hot or cold and except for her snoring you would not know she was there......untill she rolls over, then the whole house shakes, she weighs 175lb.

Just thought Id share
Cheers.......Scul

Are you in the Southern Hemisphere?

Wow! That really is hot! I appreciate all you are doing for the rabbits, but please take care of yourself and your family too!

We hit an official 107 last summer in South Carolina. It was bizarre; tools in the barn felt like they had been laying in the sun they were so hot. I could only work on building our house until noon. Be careful- you can make yourself very sick in that heat.

Do you have a lot of humidity with that awful heat?
BTW, it is zero out right now where I live.

Here it's -15 F tomorrow night. +30 F yesterday. That still sounds better than 110 F.

Thank you all for replying......
Yeah well, I was born and raised in Western Australia in the city of Perth, one of the hottest cities in Aus and it was nothing to have temps in the 90/100deg for weeks/mths in a row during summer.
After we retired, we moved to FNQ (Far Nth Queensland) only to be chased out by incredible heat with 98% humidity in the summer. (Winters were fantastic).
So we moved from the top of Aus all the way to the very bottom 'cause it was always cooler down there.
Yesterday was 111deg, very dry heat, today is 70deg......thats better.
Now......If we can just get some rain, our tanks are very low.
Just thought Id share.
Cheers........Scul

Y'all would feel right at home here. We had a couple days of winter this yr. 115* isn't unusual in summer too. Of coursesummer is most of the yr.

Thanks People, I love reading where you all come from. We have seen a lot of the world and its great to say...."Hey, Ive been there".
Texas was good 'cause its a lot like Western Aus, just a lot smaller (Texas fits into West Aus about 5 times, I think Texas has about 27 million while West Aus has 2 million). That will give you an Idea how huge and unpopulated it is.
We now live in the smallest mainland state.

Cheers.......Scul
