Question Phoenix-area homesteading resources

I'm looking for online resources (blogs, Facebook groups/pages, forums, etc.) specific to homesteading/food gardening in the Phoenix area. Most wonderful resources I've found are too general because they're country- or worldwide. Searching is frustrating because all I get are hotel, real estate and law websites. Anyone have any favorites?

I'm also looking for book recommendations that have information specifically for our climate.

I'd ask if they have a Master Gardener group - class.
I'd also see if they have any clubs, etc.
I know there's a Phoenix Garden Society...that put out a small book years ago. (Can't find it now) that addresses specifically gardening issues in Phoenix.

These would be places to start asking questions about books, homesteading issues, gardening, raising small animals, etc. See where it leads....

BTW: There's also 4-H office in Phoenix near the Extention office (or it used to be)

Happy hunting!

Mesa is a adjoining city to Phoenix where many Mormon pioneers settled. Probably the only community that practices gardening on a bigger scale.

I agree with the extension office and have contact with the extension office in Phx. myself. I did ask to be referred to a local farming group and go some good information when I was trying to find out how to grow veggies in my tucson city dirt yard (wanted to know what supplements I would likely need to add). Also go to a local (not big box type) garden center (find one by contacting a local landscaper design firm) who will know lots about local plants and species that grow well in your area.

Great information and they have area specific groups you can join.

Gardening book for Phoenix area: Extreme Gardening by Dave Owens. He is local and wrote this book specifically for the desert climate here. Definately a book to have.
