electric pole saw

Pruning has gotten downright difficult to impossible. Saw an electric Poulon pole saw at the hardware store, and was wondering if anyone had any experience using one. Have elderly knees, hips and shoulders although the rest of me is still young.

They are handy as a shirt pocket!

I have one. The saw works great. However it takes someone with lots of strength to run one. especialy when you have it extended. Mine has a 10 foot extension. Unless you have someone who will run it for you, your problems will prevent you from doing it yourself.

I borrowed my son-in-laws gas powered saw on a stick to do some pruning in my full size apple trees. I could not hold the saw up long enough to do much pruning and my hired man, who is much stronger, tired after a hour or so of intermittent trimming.

My ex FIL used to have a small orchard and terrible arthritis. He had a air powered pruner that did a beautiful job with little physical strength from him. I don't remember how it worked, Russ did the trimming from the tractor so I'm assuming the compressor was somehow powered by it.

Wish I had paid more attention, I have the lopers on a pole and can no longer pull the sliding handle down to cut without bracing against my stomach. That doesn't last long and is impossible to do from a ladder.

If anyone has an idea about the compressed air one I'd like to hear it.

I use this light-weight, gas-powered pole saw. It's made my Echo and will trim up to a 4" diameter limb. It uses a reciprocating "swede saw" type blade. Because of this, the head is very light compared to a chain saw type saw. I can use this all day.

This^^^. I have a Black and Decker with the mini 10" chain saw at the end of the pole. Once I have trimmed 5 or 6 high limbs my arms get too tired to hold it up. But the chain saw it has works great. I once had the task of taking down a 45-50 ft. oak tree that was threatening my carport after it died. I couldn't get my 20" Poulan started (was at my place in the country), but I had this little saw. After some work, I was able to drop that tall oak exactly where I wanted with it.
