Newbie Intro

Hi All,

I just joined and thought I'd say "Hi!" Thanks for letting me join. As I searched for various things I came across this group a few times and it always seemed to be friendly and have good info.

This is my first winter on our new little homestead. It's in the mountains at ~4300 ft elevation and, as a lot of you I assume, we are having unusually cold temps. It's quite challenging as our propane didn't get delivered before the first big snow dump and now they can't get down the driveway. Our tractor did make it, so we are working on fixing that. Our water went out and we think it's the pump...at least we have it narrowed down to the control box or the pump. But, hey, at least we don't need propane for the water heater.

Okay, well off I go to learn about well pumps.

We had to put in a new pump last summer, but the old one lasted us 11 years......

Welcome, do not know where you are but you will have fun on here. I wonder about your micro climate and if you are going to garden for fun or profit?

welcome.. funny how the pressure switch is the 1st thing I had to learn about here...lol
message me if you need help with it. Mine turned out to burn up switches, as the well was at bottom of hill. The splash back kept turning on switch with a false pressure reading. I put a check valve in the line and problem solved.

Very exciting time for you !

Hi All,

Wow! Thanks for making me feel so right at home. Okay, I realized maybe my intro was lacking. So...it's just my husband and myself and 2 dogs and 2 cats for now. We are in our 40's. Don't hold it against me, but I was born in NYC. It has taken me my whole life to get here...the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California.

To answer Big Dave...I'm going to garden to eat and hopefully sell at farmer's markets. After that, we'll see.

Okay, first question... Any thoughts between the Fluke 117 and 177 multimeter? Apparently I'm going to need something like this.

Thanks for the welcome, the humor and any advice,
cjc

Hi there to all,

Just joined this group after reading and reading and reading!! I live in Eastern Oregon with my hubby, 3 dogs, 4 barn cats, 3 horses and PIGS!! We have had our first of five litters last week and the other girls are getting closer... Our heard is 2 yorks, a berkshire, a large black and a large black/duroc cross.... we always have about 8-10 growing up for butcher around too.... I was in PHX for 19 1/2 years and in 2008 decided to come home. We are currently renting our place with 5 acres and the 8 acres next door.... going to get this place bought in the spring So excited!!!!

We don't have a ton of experience in all aspects of rural living, but each year is better than the last and we learn something new every day!

Thanks for letting me join up! seems to be a way very cool place with tons of knowledge!
