Nichols and Monsanto

I posted this in the Garden forum, but I think more people will see it here.

I read one of the "don't buy from" lists that included Nichol's as a supporter of Monsanto/Seminis so I contacted Nichol's and this is the answer that I received from Rose Marie Nichols McGee:

Hello,

Let me assure you we at Nichols Garden Nursery have no association with Monsanto or it's subsidiaries. A few years ago Monsanto purchased a fine vegetable seed company Seminis to our dismay. We began actively seeking out and running comparison trials of comparable vegetable varieties and I believe it has now been three years since we offered any Seminis seeds. I'm still enormously saddened by this acquisition of a fine company with knowledgeable breeders and staff. One by one our old Seminis friends have either been terminated or drifted away.

We share your unwillingness to offer economic support to Monsanto and are not involved with GMO/genetically engineered seeds in any way. I hope I have allayed your concerns and have to say things get into print that are not always reliable.

Thank you for being our customer and writing to us about your concerns. A very Happy New Year to you.

Happy Gardening.
Rose Marie Nichols McGee

Great to put another myth to rest. Shame that misinformation on the internet hurts a fine company.

That indeed is the danger of the lynch mob mentality that pervades the Interweb. Good job OP for actually taking the time to check into something and I hope yet another business isnt harmed by misleading rumor and innuendo.

I am glad to hear this about Nichols. I buy a lot of seed from them. Thank you Freelove for letting us know what you found out.

Thank you for this great info. I have ordered from Nichols several times and am always pleased with them. They are a small family owned business that is doing a great job.

Hey, for what it's worth, Territorial Seed also ends up on those lists and is also not buying from, or owned by Monsanto. Nichols and Territorial are my two favorite places to get seeds and those lists drive me a little crazy. There is an awful lot of garbage on the net that gets passed around as gospel truth by otherwise sane people.
