How many bales
... how many bales will generally fit in a pickup truck? It's been years since I have hauled it that way.

I think we usually got between 20 to 24 in a standard bed 3/4 T Dodge pickup depending on variations in size and how tightly they were baled.

Depends on how redneck you are. Stacking some on the cab... one in your passenger seat etc lol

I put 35 bales in my f150 a couple of months ago.
Could have put quite a few more on.
When I used to haul hay we would put 50 bales on each load.
It is according to how heavy the bales are, where you are taking them, and who stacks the hay on the pickup.

Well, I'd rather not stack it *too* high, have a bit of a distance to drive... lol
But it sounds like 30 may be doable.

This could be a "so fun contest" to see all of the ways we get by with hauling hay and see who could haul the most with a pickup.

8 foot box? Tailgate down? Mind if they rest on the sides of the box? Stick out a little/alot? Hard solid bales? Tied together with baler twine? Strapped down?
Laid on edge, you can get 4 across the front, ahead of the wheel wells. Then on them, I'd put one sticking out each side and one down the middle. 3 between the wheel wells, on edge and then 4 behind them, on edge. So, you have 7 on the bottom. Next row would be 14 more. Then row three would be 4, 4 and 4. lengthways. Row four would be 5 rows of 2 bales crossways. Then the top would be 4 bales anyway you want them.
I guess I count 47.
BTW, Hay at the Monday Clare, MI auction is going for $5.40 and 6.70 a bale in small lots.

Full size box, you can get near 50 and be safe.
Don't know on a short box, never had need for a worthless pickup.

IF I remember right da dput 37 on his 1940 Chevy. Tailgate down and the hay tied down. And he hauled that 8 miles over DIRT, NO GRAVEL roads during winter.

Haypoint <> Didn't you miss 4 bales on the bottom layer that were on edge?? 4 in front, 3 between wheel wells.. 4 on the back with the tailgate down.. That makes 11 on the floor.. Lay 12 on top of them with the ends on the sides of the bed..
Put another layer of 12 on top of those.. Put 6 crossways down the center of the 4th row, with 3 longways on each side of the row down the middle. That makes 47 bales only 4 bales high.. If you got to have 50 throw 3 up on top. Hold it under 80 MPH on the curves and you will be home before your pop can is empty!

Oh, gosh, Some of these posts just tickle me pink
I've seen plenty of 75 bales going down the road, but that's a bit top heavy for safety IMHO. I get 50 in the bed on a regular basis and use tiedowns. If I don't have kids, dogs, or groceries I can fit another three in the crew cab. I don't care to have things hanging out in the breeze. High and tight and tied down is my motto. Then it's rutted
dirt road all the way to the barn.

Are you loading them? I can only get 22 in our truck...after that, I'm pooped. We have an off road- taller-than-it-needs-to-be pick up though.

I am only comfortable with 25 per load. I use an O-L-D F250.

Yup, I missed those back four. Thanks. I can't ever keep count while loading and have to count them after they are all on. Looks like I can't even count them in my mind either.
