UPS/FedX drop for fenced and gated home.
I'm going to fence in my land and get a gate. One question I have is how to handle package drops.
For those with gated driveways how to you deal with this?
I really don't want to have to drive 25 miles to the UPS facility to pick up my stuff.
I had a Mail Boxes Ect. box, but after they changed UPS Stores the service got really bad. As in, the online tracking said my package was in but the owner of the UPS Store said it hadn't come in. I went there and after looking around my self found that he was actually sitting on my box.

UPS put our packages in a plastic bag and placed it over the fence. USPS made us come get it. We haven't dealt with fedex so IDK.

My UPS man said that you can build (buy) a wood box and put a lock ---unlocked on it. When you get a package, he puts the item in the box. You have the key and then can retreive it.
I thought it sounded like a great solution.

They put them in a bag and leave them at the gate. We have a "Beware of Dog" sign on our gate, so people are extremely leery about coming up to the house (and for good reason).

The Fedx guy leaves the package in a bag at the gate. We gave the regular UPS guy our gate code and he drives the package to the house.

We put a new, clean garbage can by our gate. Any packages can be put in it from the outside. We wired it to the fence so it won't blow away and Hubs drilled holes in the bottom in case some rain got in. Wouldn't work for really big things, though. No one has bothered it because it looks like trash. It was the mail ladys idea, UPS and FedEx use it too.

In a bag and tossed on the other side of the gate. I almost lost my brand new rake this way though *grrrr* but at least I didn't have to go fetch it. LIght rake in a plastic bag on a highly windy day. thankfully the bushes caught it

My UPS guy is awesome. He'll call and let me know he is leaving a box by the gate or if I'm on top of it, I leave the gate open for him. (if I remember to check my trackign number) My mail carrier never, ever, ever leaves a box. Makes me drive into town for it. And, for some reason FedEx can't seem to find me......even though both UPS and USPS can. You can tell, UPS is my favorite.

We found a tiny building that looks like an old outhouse. A dad had built it as a shelter for his child to wait for the bus. Dh put a lock on the door and it's used by UPS, USPS, and FedEx.

The all just open the gate, drive up to the house to leave package, then close the gate when they leave. It's good to talk to them ahead of time if possible. I called UPS and let them know we were putting up a gate. I didn't want them to just drop packages on the other side of the gate because then my goats would eat them

I really like the trash can and box idea...I think I'll do that too.

http://www.ups.com/mychoice/ will help let you know when they leave a box for you- via automatic text. Downside to registering is they may prove that they can glean from public records where you lived 45 years ago - it was part of the identity verification procedure. Shocked the "Sherlock" out of me.
If you sign up register all name and address variants.
My guys have my cell number, as I don't make them drive up my orphan road - yet. I just ask for a text message on the way in or out and they can drop it. You might consider leaving your chain locked and looped over the gate rail, when your package is due.
My mechanic once waited at the gate at the bottom of our place because he thought it was locked tight. Course Reid ain't smart as a crook, or he wouldn't work for a living.

Usually they will just open the gate and deliver the package to the house, but we do sometimes have a driver that is afraid of dogs and they will put the package in a plastic bag and put it over the gate.

We have a closed gate all the time, however we also have another property across the road. We have packages delivered to that address and they just leave the parcels on the porch.

They used to leave me a letter to pick it up in town but after my housemate called them a bunch of horrible names, they started delivering packages by chucking them behind my gate.
I preferred when I had to pick them up!
But anyway, yeah, talk to them about it, they should be good.

I had a friend that worked for UPS during the Christmas rush one year. When unloading trucks at the transfer station he said it was a competition to see who could throw the boxes the farthest down the conveyer belt.
But I digress.

UPS will just put it in a bag and put it inside the gate. FedEx knows they can come in, and they normally leave it on the porch.
Having a fence and gate, hasn't been an issue.
