I just made 50% on my money

I bought raisins on sale for $3. The same size package at another store sells for $4.50 plus the price is likely to go up in the near future. They keep for a very long time and I'm sure to eat all 12.5 lbs before they go bad.

With food prices going up almost daily now it's a good opportunity to make money with your money. The bank is paying me something like 0.2% so it's one step above hiding it under the mattress.

I always say when buying stuff like that, it won't go bad and it won't get cheaper so buy lots!

Last year i bought 30-40 jars of peanut butter. Then the price didn't go up much but then yesterday I noticed it had really jumped. It definitely made more "interest" than the bank would have given me on the same amount spent

But won't the oil in the peanut butter go rancid before you eat it all?

How do you keep raisins from drying out in storage? We don't use a lot of raisins so I've not had much luck with keeping them fresh. In fact, we throw out a lot of raisins. Sure not saving money that way.

My best guess is that anything that is imported is going to really soar in price. Dollars will have less purchasing power overseas as the exchange rate changes to our disadvantage. So things like chocolate, coffee, tea, and auto parts are going to really go up.

Raisins that dry out are still excellent for cooking. They will rehydrate.

Disclaimer: exchange rate to our disadvantage, is only to the disadvantage of the individual consumer. It will be good for the country overall. American goods will be cheaper and exports should go up. Imports will cost more and imports should go down. In theory.

I get it. My first wife did the same thing she bought things just to save money. If you find 15% off on anything she would try to buy it.

vac pack is best but any air tight container works. If you buy the Costco sized bag, break it into smaller portion sizes that you will use in a month or two. Freeze for up to two years the packages you won't get to for a while. Keep the package you are using in the vegetable crisper in the frig.

If the raisins dry out and get hard, lightly saute a tart apple in butter, then add the raisin rocks and a little white wine, beer, or apple juice (just enough to get everything half covered in liquid). Add brown sugar and cinnamon to taste. Let it cook further till the liquid thickens to a light syrup. This is a dessert in itself or can be a topping for ice creme.

I've never thrown out a raisin in my life.

You can always rehydrate them with a little bit of warm water, too.

The lady down the road really liked buying groceries when they have on sale items that are the "Buy One Get one Free" deals we often see. She took advantage of every thing in the store marked that way.. Her husband kept telling her they didn't need most of them things, even if they were a bargin..
She told him they didn't cost anything, because she paid for the first item with the money she saved on the second item!!

No it's not. Not at all.

I eat lots of raisins so I would end up buying them in the future at a higher price. The money in the bank isn't making any money for me so I might as well put it in food that I know I will use.

The raisins came in sealed 20 oz containers and will keep for a year or more. I've never had any dry out and I've never thrown any away.

Maybe the government would be saving a lot of money of they bought what they needed at sale prices instead of paying highly inflated "government prices" for everything.

The president should appoint a "Shopping Czar" and hire one of us homesteading housewives to scrutinize prices before the government would buy. I bet we could cut the federal budget in half without giving up any goods or (deserved) services.

Although, I guess that would actually be a "Shopping Czarina".

So I suppose you wait for prices to rise before you buy.
