quick question?

I attempted to simply use the context to figure these out, but not real sure. What are the initials DD, DH, DS and a few others that I don't remember, all starting with "D"? I see these used in many posts, but am not sure what they mean. I think DW means wife, yet that is as close as I am able to guessing the meaning. I appreciate any answer. Thank you, and I realize that these are probably known to everyone but me, and I most likely look stupid not knowing.

DD - Dear Dad
DS - Dear Son
DH - Dear Husband, etc.

Thank you Jpchar. At one point it crossed my mind that it may mean ---- Wife etc, yet the context wasn't something where the negative conotation would fit in.

The "D" can also stand for another word depending on if you are happy with what they have done or if you are angry with what they have done........just saying.

I always thought the D stood for "darling" Like My Darling Wife, My Darling Husband etc.

"D" always stands for "Dear", as in "Dear Husband", "Dear Wife", "Dear Daughter", "Dear Son". No matter what the connotation of the post, the "D" stands for "Dear".

The *tone*, however, can convey and entirely different thing. As in, "My DEAR husband left the power drill out in the weather again! " ~smiles~ Just because the tone is sarcastic doesn't mean the word has changed.

When it comes to children, there may be numbers added. Such as "My DD13 went to her 4-H show today and my DD9 had soccer practice." In this, the numbers are their ages, to differentiate between children.

Both Dear and Darling are correct.

Question: What is 'DD'? What Does DD Stand For?
Answer: DD commonly stands for "Dear Daughter" or "Darling Daughter", a form of written digital affection in the 21st century. e.g. "My DD should be back from the Cayman Islands next week". "DD and I are going for brunch this weekend".

This is the only site that uses these that I visit, and they confuse me to no end.

Dear daughter? Dear dad? Dumb dog?

I never have a clue.

I do believe that it's DF "Dear Father" and DM "Dear Mother"...or "Darling", however you want to look at it. Leaving the DD to be for one's female offspring.
