As long as pumpkin pie is on the menu nothing else much matters.

Merry Christimas!

This year it's going to be roast duck and dressing, and 4 pies. There will be a bunch of other stuff, but that is plenty for me.

We always have pot luck with DH's family on Christmas. This year, it was ham, brisket, sweet potatoes, broccoli rice casserole, pasta salad, deviled eggs and rolls. Plus appetizers and desserts.

I hate to sound mean ,but why don't you have them come to your house to eat?? Or take a casserole you can eat or a couple dishes there??? Would that not be easier than eating reheated pizza ?

My SIL is highly allergic to animals so my house is off limits. I ask every yr what we could bring for food and get told to bring nothing.

We had a breakfast brunch this year with lots of sausage, fatback (love it), breakfast casseroles, zucchini bread, cin rolls, OJ, coffee, etc. for all the relatives and kids.

I made a ham, gr bean casserole, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, cheese ball, cheese cake, veggie tray, cheese tray at home for Christmas eve and Christmas supper leftovers.

Tomorrow is going to be lentils and rice because my tummy is rolling from all the "YUCK" of richness today. I don't care if that is high carb or not. I need some easy to digest food! LOL.

We had our big family meal last week...I baked two turkeys, a big ham, bought 4 pounds of trimmed and smoked brisket, did pounds and pounds of potatoes, baked beans, green beans, homemade cranberry sauce, one with oranges, one with jalapeno peppers...LOL....had dressing, gravy, rolls, bread, pecan pies and a cake....WHEW....and 21 family members to eat it....plus two big salads, one Asian salad and one with just lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and ranch dressing....

Next year, completely ignore them and bring the whole dang meal. I have had in-laws like that....I learned that if I wanted to eat a traditional dinner, I needed to bring it.

Most things, except stuffing that is out of the bird, or mashed potatoes, can be made the day before, refrigerated in the cookware, and then re-heated in the over at the destination. Takes about an hour to reheat everything.

If they complain, tell them to start making actual food for the holidays. However, I doubt anyone will complain...instead several people will likely take you aside and whisper in your ear, "Thank God! You're a lifesaver!"

In future years, you can co-ordinate with everyone else via e-mail and say, "I'm bringing green bean casserole and an apple pie. What are you bringing?" Don't ask (No one EVER says anything EXCEPT "Oh, you don't need to bring anything..."), just inform them of what you are going to DO.

And on the thread note:

After I got the hatches battened down here from the wind storm, we went to my mother's and I made:

Glazed ham
Mashed potatoes and gravy
homemmade rolls (turned out heavy, the yeast I bought last week didn't rise well)
Candies sweet potatoes

Mom made:
Green beans with bacon and onions
Stuffing
2 pumpkin pies
Apple pie

I love doing holiday meals with my Mom; we are a great team!

Everyone's menus sound great!

We had:

~Baked Glazed Ham
~Roasted Asparagus
~Hot Curried Fruit
~Honey Pan Rolls
~Cherry Pie

Garlic Mashed Potatoes were on the menu but time ran short when several people dropped in during prep time.

We started the morning by opening a few presents with our Son and grandpuppy. We enjoyed some of Sweeties cinnamon raisin rolls and hot Tang.
I was given a Ham by the City Administrator, very nice one. I started cooking it this morning at 0400, basted it every 1/2 hour. We had smoked salmon, wild rice and cranberries for our noon meal today. Then we took 1/2 the ham to our daughters for an evening gathering along with a relish tray and dinner rolls. Most everyone made little ham sandwiches. We had a very laid back Christmas day....James
