Smile It's official

It is now 22Dec.2012. The Mayans were full of malarky. They couldn't speak English or draw their calenders with lines and blocks so people would know what they were, and it is now official they could not predict the end of the world any better than the guy who calculated it to be in May of last year. You know if I were to want to make such a perdiction I would do as the Mayans and pick a date that would never happen in my lifetime. If it does happen in my life, no ones going to be around to taunt me, and when that date happens I won't be around to hear them.

#1- At the time that the Mayans wrote their calender, modern English had not yet evolved. You could not speak/write/understand the English language of the time.

#2-A calendar needs to be in a block like liner configuration? In who's "rulebook of calender making?"

#3-Their calender did not predict the "end-of-time" but the end of an era. Just like "our calendar" predicted the end of the "1900's"

#4-I perdict that lots of folks will taunt you in your lifetime.

To quote a friend - if the Mayans knew so much why did their civilization die out a thousand years ago??? They have no credibility.

Our calendars have 12 pages. The Mayans used a big rock, and for the same reason -- the amount of space chosen was exactly the right size for the amount of time that was being marked.

And don't go blaming the Mayans for the whole end-of-the-world thing. That was started by a drug-addled "scientist" in the seventies; the Mayans are completely innocent on this charge!

Modern people didn't understand the message. It wasn't the end of the world they predicted, it was the end of Hostess Twinkies (although for some people that IS the end of the world!)

I know most people here know this, but the Mayans didn't predict the end of the world on 12/21!!! People are making me crazy with this stuff, except for the ones who are obviously kidding. Just now on the news a journalist said "Well, the world didn't end yesterday like the Mayans predicted...." THEY DIDN'T PREDICT THAT!!!

Whew, rant over

Twinkies were well known to last to the end of the world ... guess you (and the Mayans) are right

My wife works at one of the bigger calander making plants in the USA. Lot of general calanders (mall displays, etc) come from overseas, but the ones with advertising on them (Napa, JD, local plumber, etc) still mostly come from the USA.

She is working on layout of some 2015 calenders already, so I guess they were planning past yesterday.

Most are block lined calanders, but they did experiment with some cubes, triangles, and stuff. Had a 3-D effect process also for some.

Guess I better go Chritmas shopping, didn't want to spend too much until I knew it would be needed.

Apparently there have been many changes to and mistakes in our calendar. I think the current date for the birth of Christ is 4 AD (which means the "year of the Lord"), which is 4 years AFTER he was born, Huh?

Did those people in France come down off that mountain yet or are they still waiting for the spaceship to emerge to take them home ?

All the times I've heard that song, never really listened to the words.

Not many of them, just repeats a lot, but maybe it says more than I thought.

PERDICTION
eternal death or ----ation

(from ecclesiastical Latin "perditio" meaning destruction)
Nostradamous seems to have known that his soul was headed for hell (perdiction).

he beseeches his infant son never to dabble in such practices for, he says, they desiccate the body, disturb the mind, and send the soul to perdition.
