Open door alarm

Would like opinions and suggestions for an alarm that would tell me the (outside)
door was open on the pump house? You know to keep the pipes from freezing?

Is there something I can put on the door to warn me it is open that could be heard in the house 20 ft away?

You could put a light on top with a contact switch on the door, so if the door is open the light would be on.

Why would the door be open would be my question? Someone going in and out of it? or are you like me and forget everything?

I like the light idea...

Lock the door, hang a key somewhere. Problem solved.

err well I think someone- not me- opened it and I just wanted some kind of alarm that would notify me when it happens. But maybe the lock and key would be better.....

I wonder if there is an inexpensive thermometer with a remote and alarm. Kind of like an oven probe for cooking meat, but in the cold direction and wireless.

There is an inexpensive wireless thermometer but I don't know of one with an alarm. I've got a couple wireless remote thermometers, need to get another.

Lock and key sounds much better though. Get an all brass one, not the weatherproof kind. The weatherproof ones tend to wear and hold water rendering them totally unusable in below freezing weather IME.

Just remembered, there is a door alarm that sounds when a door is opened. Kiddie aisle in most department stores. Don't know if that would be what you are looking for or not.

Wireless doesn't usually work well where it gets cold - the battery freezes. Wireless thermometer doesn't work in winter, auto-timer switch in chicken coop for lights doesn't work in winter...it runs on a battery!

The thermometer in the rabbit shed worked fine all of last year. I think we had to change the battery early this spring. And yes, it did drop below freezing out there.

Put a spring on it, and it will close its self.

There is a little temperature sensing cube that you plug in that turns the plug in it on when it drops below a certain temp (guessing) 35 degrees plug that in out in the pumphouse and then run a extension cord into the house to run a light, fan, vacuum cleaner....between them one of them will get your attention!

Try those spendy lithium batteries. Helps my wireless temp units.
