Cheap hoop house

Randy has a good looking hoop house going. To build a cheap one got to the Kerr center site. It will show you how to put one up for $1000. I went to the seminar and we did it in less than four hours.

I built two 14 x 25 hoophouses in SD years ago using PVC, rebar and UV treated woven poilyvinyl covering for less the $400 each. Even with inflation should be less then $1000 now days. http://www.northerngreenhouse.com/

These folks have all kinds of plans and materials available. What I really like is the covering lasts years and years with no damages at all. VERY cost efficient.

I built a 11x38ft, using 1" pvc and treated 2x4's on the sides and treated 2x2s on the ends for less than $250 BUT I used 6mil builders plastic and found a free storm door and a window for the end. One of the members here posted some pics some time back and I copied it. Was easy to build and if I had of ordered some good UV plastic it would of cost a little more, but it would only take a hour to change the plastic if I decide to keep it up for several years.

We made low tunnels for our raised beds. I sawed a bunch of rebar into 5" segments, drilled holes on opposing sides of the beds at a gentle angle, tapped in the rebar, and bent UV protected PVC (found in the electrical isle) anchored by the rebar. Cover with greenhouse supply sheeting, and enjoy cool season veggies all winter (I am still harvesting cilantro for tex-mex dishes). Planting in the spring starts a month early, too. Our beds are 4' wide, so a standard 10' section cut in two makes perfect hoops.
