Old machinery

Sorting through some of my photos for artwork and thought HT people might enjoy this. This is a McCormick Deering tractor that was bought by my hairdresser's father in 1937 and who used it on the farm all his life. It now sits in her front yard and she says her son keeps saying he is going to restore it.

Nice! Wonderful of your hair dresser to have it out there like that. So many people would just be calling it junk.

I don't feel so bad about having the old Ford 5000 sitting in my backyard right now.

That tractor looks much older than a 1937 model. I've spent many long days driving 1937 Farmals - John Deeres and Allis Chalmers. My first tractor that I owned was a 1937 AC, They all looked much newer that the one in the picture.

I've got a graphite drawing started with this tractor although I really wish it would snow enough for me to get 'snow covered' photos. Probably isn't going to happen, though, so will probably end up with an old barn I photographed as a background and sunflowers.

I love working with artwork and 'old' things. I've got photos of things I don't even know what they are ... along with tractors, farm machinery, pickups, milk cans ...

I had the old ranch wagon that my grandparents had when they homesteaded, it sat in my front yard by a fir tree for years, but just couldn't justify a 3000 mile trip just to go get it and bring it down when I relocated to KY.

I still miss it and will do a painting with it someday as I do have photos at least.

You may well be right. She said her father bought it in 1937 ... need to change that in my original post as I don't know that she said he bought it 'new' ... he may well have bought it used. Would be interesting to find out just what year it was but I suspect any numbers that you could use to trace the year of manufacture would be obliterated.

Next time I go get my hair cut I will try and see if I can find it, if it is still visible. Would be interesting to know the year when I get the drawing finished.

Its a 10/20, OR a 15-30. Yes, they did look like that till around 40. They had the W-40 in the 40s, and it looked just like that, even tho the Hs and Ms were styled, They wernt.
Dad had a 37 WC AC. My older Bro got ran over with it.

I am so sorry to hear that. Loosing a brother is very hard. Please accept my condolences.

The W40 wasn't styled and was built until 1940. They also made the WD40 diesel and WK40 kerosene.

The first W4's were built in'39 and looked like this

The W6 came out in 1940....James

Guess I was thinking of the W-40. Sorry bout that. I also think that the D JDs didnt get styled until 40 or after, the As, which one I have, and the Bs, being styled in 39
