A great 1930s farm Christmas Story Book

The Melodian by Glendon Swarthout. I read it and A Christmas Carol aloud every year in Dec. DONT READ THE LAST CHAPTER OF THE MELODIAN. TEAR IT OUT.

We always read "Christmas Day in the Morning" by Pearl S. Buck. It is a kids book, but hits close to home and is wonderful!! Will check out The Melodian. Thanks

Tell me what you think about it.

Thing I dont like about it, and have changed in the book ive read from for over 30yrs, is the high falootin language he uses. Ive made MANY notations for language to suit a farmers vocabulary.. Plus, There is a list of neighbors to the main people in the book. Ive replaced those with the names of the neighbors who lived around home when I was growing up. Feels good to remember them, All gone now, and what better time than Christmas.

One year my wife and I took turns reading Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory to one another...very touching.
