Grants Pass Oregon

Anyone from around the area? Just moved down here with the GF and wondering what's up in the area and if there are any fellow HT'ers in the vicinity?

OH MY, I love Grants Pass, Oregon. I only know of one person there and he passed away, but his wife still has a farm there (400 acres) they bought in the 70's. I loved it the week I stayed there during the 4th of July and it was over a 100 in GA and a cool 85 in GP, Oregon.

Liked the people I met there, but alas, that has been a few years back so most are probably moved by now - (this was an "older" crowd). I loved the scenery too, just beautiful.

You moved from Kalama?
Where at in GP? We moved here (Rainier) from Cave Junction.
Good fishing at Selmac, record largemouth bass come out of there. Oregon Caves are cool if you like caves, lol.
ANY decent sized store is clear down in Medford.Theres a cool place in Takilma, like a hotel, but you stay in a treehouse.

I have family in GP, but they aren't HTers. Nice town. I'd live there.

So far I am enjoying the weather here. Not nearly as wet as up north which I like. The spot I am on is only 4 acres but the garden and irrigation is already in place,as is the shop. Too many neighbors for my tastes though so it's certainly going to be temporary.

I do however like the area overall... so far.

Yep, moved down here just a few weeks ago. It's why I haven't been around much.

Welcome to the area! My family and I are over in the Shady Cove area in Jackson county (one over to the East). We've been here for ~2 years and are loving southern Oregon.

Nah - there may not be alot of us on HT, but there are quite a few like-minded folks in the area.

Once you settle into a spot, let me know if there are any fruit/berry cuttings that you'd like to start. My orchard is only a couple years old, but I have a pretty good selection.

We lived down in GP for nearly 9 yrs. Not a bad place but too many Californicators moving in for my taste. Lot of old school preppers and survivalist types in the area. If memory services Josephine county is the cheapest county in the state when it comes to property taxes.

Well thanks! I'm not sure what other houses are for sale in the area that will work for me, but I'm sure if I look around I'll find something.

I grew up in the woods and mountains outside of Grants Pass, my Dad still lives on the mining claim where I was born. Lots of hippies down there living alternatively back in the day (or it seemed like a lot since that was who I was arround). It is so different now though with all the people that have moved there. I can't believe how built up it is now. When I was little it was a pretty sleepy place (I'm 40yrs old). Those big houses on the side of I-5 were very surprising. I still have friends there. We lived places out in Merlin, Jump of Joe Creek, and up Pivine (this might be just what we call it). My youngest years were spent there way up in the mountains off BLM roads, down dirt roads, and hiked back with wheel barrows, no electricity, no running water (we got water from the creeks). Those mountain creeks were the coldest water I've ever felt in my life! It could be 100 degrees outside and you could freeze to death in those creeks.

I hope you enjoy it down there! Lots of outdoors activities. It is beautiful and much better weather then the Willamette Valley.

There was a piece of property on Galice Rd up in Merlin that was high on our list when we were were looking for property a couple years ago. It was about 20 acres, with a manufactured home on it. Had a nice pond and access to the Rogue. I think they were asking less than $200K.
