Have to brag... Got a Free Cider Press

Ok, just have to brag. Picked up a free cider press from a man who was remodleing a foreclosed home. It was in the back corner of the garage. It is one with a metal base and large threaded screw down the center.

Looks similar to this one :Have to brag... Got a Free Cider Press - Homesteading Questions

The metal will need to be cleaned up. I will post picutres when I get it out of the truck.

Man that thing is heavy with the cast iron base. The base needs to be cleaned and maybe refinished.

Thanks everyone! Yes I have been talking about getting one or making one. I do feel blessed. The wood is all in great shape as well. The base will need to be cleaned up. I am not sure if painting or powder coating will work to clean it up. I was looking and did not see any markings on the unit. I will take a closer look. There is a number 7 cast into the part the moves down the threaded screw. The plate below that has a 5 cast in it.

I am a bit of an urban homesteaded but have been scouting out the area for the trees people don't pick. I know of three pear tree's within a few blocks of here and have permission to pick. I have also found may apple tree that are also ripe for the collecting.

We also have a pastor from one of the church groups we belong to an his family still keeps a large vinyard on the family farm. Next year whenm we go out to help harvest the grapes they sell to a local wineary we may have to take the press with us.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
