Wink Anyone interested in trying on Alaskan Homesteading?

When I see these types of things I pass them on. For all I know this fits somebody: Tend gardens in Alaska this summer!

All right. YOU asked for it....

OR YOU CAN MOVE TO ALASKA...
where the sun comes up at a civilized time: 10 AM.
where one crab will feed 4 people.
Where any fish smaller than 5 pounds, is called BAIT.
Where any earthquake smaller than a 6, is just dismissed as 'settling'.
where people really do stop to help you, if your car breaks down.
where that guy in front of you at WalMart with a pistol on his hip -is NOT
a robber, it's your NEIGHBOR.
where you don't blow your nose on a kleenex at minus 35 or it will freeze on your nose!

Kodiak is where the world's largest grizzly bears live. They get so big because of what they eat all the time up there. With that being said, I would probably do better in Anchorage because it probably is the only town that could offer me cnc machining as a career. That's what I do for a career.

I probably spend more time over on the alaska outdoors directory than I do here anymore. I like the forums there on actually living and homesteading up there, and the wife has said if I want to go she will follow. That being said, I just can't convince myself that the expense of making the move up will be worth more than moving to the boonies somewhere else in the lower 48. Not to say that the dream isn't there though. I have nothing but respect and envy for those that make the jump.

Now I am off to watch my favorite movie about life in Alaska, 30 Days of Night...

"Tend gardens in Alaska this summer" . . . summer in Alaska, that occurs during the first 2 weeks in August, right?

We were having a discussion about Alaska on one of my other forums. We were convincing a single girl to move up there! I said from what I have heard the odds are good!

One member from Alaska chimed in and said " honey, the odds may be good, but the goods are odd"

There's a lot of truth to that. I've lived in AK.

I have always wanted to move to alaska, but I think it may be a bit difficult with horses, and other critters.... be too expensive for me to feed them I would think....
