glutton for punishment trying to tan again

okay, learned alot from my first attempt, have been given two frozen cow hides this time that are defrosting, while they are doing that I am building a customized covered work bench to make things much easier, that is a lot of leather to try and tan all at once so am quartering the hides, my question is, can I start with two pieces and salt preserve the rest until I am ready to brain tan? will salting first hurt the end result, make it less soft? can you brain tan after salting or does it dry out too much? when I am ready to use the preserved pieces, do I just apply the brain mixture? thoughts? can you brain tan cow leather? I have read some places cow leather will not brain tan...

You may want to find out where the different thicknesses are on the hides so you when you cut the hide each piece will be a fairly uniform thickness.

I never salt hides that I'm going to brain tan.

Just place the hide, skin side together, roll it up, put it in a plastic garbage bag and into the freezer until ready to proceed.

Or, you could flesh it all out, string it up allowing it to air dry into raw hide.
