"Wheat Belly" - New Book On How To Control Blood Sugar

Just received a book my DW wanted on removing all traces of wheat from the human diet and finally getting a hold on Blood Sugar and Gluten intolerance. It's an amazing book that pretty much confirms Dr Atkins methods without causing the body to go into Ketosis (NOT Keto-acidosis). The problem is WHEAT is in everything and today's wheat isn't the wheat of your ancestors. If you think GeoCorn is bad, Geowheat is worse. Something interesting in the book - the digestion of Amylopectin A (only found in wheat) causes release of EXORPHINS which bind in the brain to the same exact sites as Morphine. No wonder wheat is so hard to give up.

This book is fantastic. It's about much much more than just blood sugar. My husband and I both have eliminated wheat from out diets. My triglycerides went down 50%.

Hubby had been put on cholesterol drugs after a heart attack last summer. After we did our research, he stopped the statin drugs. This is when he eliminated wheat. His doctor was very pleased with his blood work. The doc was VERY startled when we said that he was not taking the drugs, but changed his diet.

The wheat free diet is also beneficial for reducing general inflammation, such as joint pain, etc.

I highly recommend the book and the wheat free diet!

I read some of it at the library where I work. Seemed very useful. Heard the author interviewed on Dr. Oz last week.

When you read the book and all of the problems that wheat causes in the human body, you would never take a bite again unless you were starving. I have it in food storage with the hopes of never having to use it. What wheat and wheat gluten do to the human body is criminal.

Don't care what the wheat counsel says. Read the book. The author is a practicing cardiologist.

"I bet the wheat counsil would disagree" I'll bet they would - however the chances of very many people giving up wheat is not great - wheat is too addicting - poor mans morphine/crack/heroin.

Read the book - it will scare you and the book has about 10 pages of references to scientific studies in the back that "prove" what the author is saying.

Giving up wheat was easy for us. Giving up corn chips is harder. LOL After all, what do you eat your guacamole on if you don't have corn chips?

The wheat council would probably not like the findings that the "new" wheats, by altering the length of the stem, have altered the food value of the grain.

I keep meaning to get off - or at least cut back on - wheat. Then I'll get that bread craving, and... <sigh>

At Chipotle, I get the salad; lettuce, chicken, grilled vegetables, salsa, with a scoop of guac. on top. You can make the same at home.

I purchased this book a few weeks back. Amazing information contained in that book. Best money I've spent in a long time. Hubby is reading it at the moment. He's only a few chapters in and has already given up wheat.

I have the book. Dr. Davis is not taken too seriously in scientific circles, because in his enthusiasm he makes claims not supported by scientific evidence (yet) and some of the studies he cites as references don't actually prove what he says they prove.

That being said, I gave up wheat after reading the book. I had a torn rotater cuff injury from years before that had begun to be extremely painful again without any aggravating injury that I was aware of. I was taking ibuprofen at night to get to sleep. And eating a lot of wonderful artisan bread that I was bartering eggs for. Within 2 weeks of stopping the wheat I was completely pain free. I have normal use and strength in that shoulder again. I'm convinced of the inflammatory properties of modern wheat, if nothing else.

My naturopathic doctor took me off wheat in 2004 and my asthma symptoms virtually disappeared. As long as I stay off wheat, I have no breathing issues. When I think of all the years of drugs to control asthma, only to find out it was actually a wheat allergy ...

I will definitely need to add this book to my collection!

Does the book have eating guide so you avoid and get off the addiction of wheat?

After reading the book a few months ago, I quit eating grains of any kind. Helped with weight loss, blood sugar went down and another wonderful "bonus" is that I no longer crave sweets, or anything made with grain so I don't ever feel deprived.

Raw Vegans have recipes for "crackers" that are made with veggies and nuts and dehydrated that are very good. Here's one site that has a recipe for Sun Dried Tomato crackers that are really good with hummus and guacamole. Just have to have a dehydrator.
