Question about investors

So how would one go about finding an investor for starting a business when you don't have any money? What about a small business loan that has no payments for an X amount of time. Is there such a thing?

A friend of ours raised the money to start his winery by selling "1-year notes" to his friends, with a fixed rate of return - eg. 10%. So if you invested $1000 in his winery you got $1100 back one year from now. I don't know the legalities, but it worked for him and he's now running a very successful business.

Personal Loans and Online Investing - Peer to Peer Lending - Prosper

It's a site were people with a few bucks look for people to invest in. Kinda peer to peer banking.

Basically put together a business plan, with a timeline, of what you want to do and when & how it will pay off.

The better your plan and business is, the lower the intrest, and the more likely you will find someone to invest. Not that it is easy to find an invester - tho as low as banks pay off these days, some lawyer or doctor or some such would probably have money to stick into a _good_ idea....

Be wary about investment angels. Try Samuel & Adams brewery. They help small businesses. To bad there are not small start up loans.

From your links it seems like you are already involved in more than one small business. (correct me if I'm wrong) If these are not profitable how will you make an additional business so?

The small businesses we have do just fine. They are what support us! But, we are moving soon and will be starting over from zero. Husband was simply speculating.

If you want an investor, someone who gives you money and then shares the risk with you in return for a share of the profits or losses, that is different from someone who gives you a loan in exchange for interest.

If you do want a real investor, you need to have a business plan to attract them. Then draw up legal paperwork to show both your obligations and the share of the business you each will own.
