Usually it is "not nice" to brag but in this case (FIRE!) bragging is allowed! No, we have not built a fire yet but should have this morning. We are 44 this morning (Western NC) and it is chilly. We have a solar collector front porch and it warms up the house.

We did fire up one outdoor Oven this weekend for just a quick cooking. But that does not count for a first warm the house fire.

Congrats on your fire! Stay warm!

I would have thought ya'll would have been a bit cooler up there !! I am just below Franklin on the other side of the line. We may be a little more elevated than Saluda.

Can't new stove isn't hooked up yet and we haven't cleaned out the chimney. But we have used the space heaters just about every morning and evening to take the chill off. It was 33 this morning.

I love this time of the year also, gathering wood and splitting it when there is a feeling of fall in the air.

We bought a new EPA wood stove this year and are anxious to see how it performs compared to our old boxwood stove. So I'm a little anxious for a chance to fire it up.

I am not ready for the winter. Still need to split my wood and clean out the chimney. I do love a good fire in the winter. Like Braggs said (91) today and rainey.

I have fans in the windows to bring in the cool air this morning. Enjoy your fire, I cannot wait for cooler temps or even rain for that matter.

greg -

We are at about 2300 feet but get warm air blowing this way from Greenville / Spartanburg areas. We seem to stay about 8 - 12 degrees cooler than them. I love the fall temps.

Low this am was 42*F. Still warm and sunny during the day so no fire yet.
I did get the comforter out if summer storage. Dh was complaining about being cold.
I'm thrilled to see cooler temps. Summer lasted way too long IMO.

We actually lit our first one yesterday morning just to take the chill off. Temp was 36 outside, and it was 60 inside the house. We don't like to turn our electric furnace on...ever. So, we lit a fire in the kitchen wood range to take the chill off the house. It was so cozy....so homey. I LOVE it.

DH lit ours for the first time Sunday night. He liked to burn me out of the house. Our house is well insulated and it gets over 80 degrees fast. I tried to open the window but the cold air coming in on our heads wasn't going to work. He was able to refrain himself from firing it up last night, lol.

No fire yet,
I usually wait till about 20 below but with the new GF here Ive brought water in the house so I suppose I will have to build a fire by 20 degrees or so.
