Another Find-----------More help needed? Pics.

Eveyone did so well on the last object, thought I would try again. Found this today and like it, but have no idea what it is or was? About 2" wide and 1/2" thick. It appears to be made of red brass, and heavy, looks as though something fit in the back side where the lip is and there is a place for screw. I loved the flag and colors. What is it?

I used to have a stamp dispenser with a lid that was similar to that. If that is what it is, the base is missing. It held a whole roll and the base had a slit in the side where stamps came out.

I thought of WW 1 button with the base missing and maybe a stud threaded for the hole if its threaded to come out through the base in a ring to be sewn onto a uniform. Somma that is cause the color appears to be olive drab, BUT I KNOW that uniforms in general didnt have no flag painted onto the buttons.

You gave us no idea of scale, unfortunetely.
If it were about 2-3" across, I'd say it looks a lot like the shell for an old tching, ching bicycle bell.

Cabin the wood is yellow pice from a general store that was in Braggs during Indian Territory. It was used for dry goods, we now use it in our kitchen for our dining table. It is 9"2" long and has a bench from a convent from Ft. Smith, Ark and the other side has a farm house bench, with chair at each end. I will post a pic on fb for you to see.

here are some images of old brass buttons, they do look similar to your piece, but no flag

Ya know, it looks EXACTLY like the bell on a bicycle. look for wear marks where the ear extends inward to see if it has been hit by a spinny thing inside. Or just try hitting it. Does it sound like a bike bell?
Edited to add: I just read that Wobblebug thinks so, too...so ...I'm with Wobblebug.

Looks like the top of an old cane or walking stick which, from my limited research, used to use old drawer pulls or cabinet knobs. However, the little stop nib inside the back of it would seem to indicate it could be turned either way only so far like an adjustment dial of some sort.
