Craigslist Surge Milker, what else would I need to buy?

So this little guy is up on craigslist. I was planning to milk by hand, but if I don't need this I know someone else who desperately does-- what else would this need to be functional? how much would it cost to be running? could different fittings make it work for goats too? Is this just the bucket and part of a whole machine that would still need to be acquired? I am totally ignorant of these things because my hands are nimble enough to have no excuse to need one- so i've never even glanced at them, just heard them mentioned.

Oh thats a beautiful article, Thank you!!

Edit: Seems like I *COULD* get a more complete setup on ebay for not much more money, so the tips in the acticle were extra useful.

Ive never seen such a thing. But I believe you would need a vacuum pump at the least.

If their "teets" are supposed to go in those sharp holes there, you will also need mastitis medication, lots of it.

You need a vacuum pump, expensive, and the "claw", all you have is the bucket there

Ok. You know me. I did it. I wrote the person who posted that and let them know it wasn't a "machine."

No self control. That's me.

yes all you have is the bucket, you would need the pulsator, teat cups, inflations, hoses, rubber gaskets, milker strap and a vac. pump. The bucket pictured is an old one, my Dad milked many decades with those milkers, they are man killers if you have to milk sixty head of cows with them. > Thanks Marc

Here's what the entire Surge milking machine looks like. We have that same bucket and use ours twice a day.

We have 2 of those used to just put them inline for sick/fresh cows. Fed calves with that milk.

and that is a "one cow at a time milker". no, you cant hook up more than one. each hole is for each teat. we used one this spring for our two nurse cows while we were raising bottle calves. they are a god-send if you've got a cow that is a heavy producer, has short teats, or needs a fast milkout and you just cant do it by hand. worth every penny. (for the whole set up...)

I've got the vacuum system in my barn. I certainly never plan on using it again. Any offers?
