Walk behind sickle mower parts

I bought a walk behind sickle bar mower at a sale for $50

Good condition save for the drive connection on the bar

It is a ball and socket connection

The cast socket is broken

The unit is older and I can't find a brand name

Have it welded by using nickel rod or by braising the nickel is stronger.

If it's a Bolens power hoe start looking for internet groups for Bolens stuff that might be able to point you toward some parts sources. The yahoo group is one. Doesn't look too active.

I have a power ho special with the sickle bar attachment. I couldn't adjust the drive sheave to slow down the ground speed enough. Cutting thick weeds was fine, but it did a poor job in grass. I also have a 24" reel mower, plow, cultivator, and sulky for it. Some old woman heard I liked old garden tractors. Her husband had to go to the nursing home, she hated seeing all of his stuff sitting around not being used. She gave me that, a Bolens Ridemaster, a small trailer, and a Sherman backhoe with brackets to fit an 8N or 9N Ford. I used the Power Ho for a few years until the engine finally gave out.

Keep an eye on ebay, those mowers show up on there occasionally.

Bolens made a 12BB01. There's lots of info on the internet. I second the idea of using eBay that LazyBum mentioned. Set up a search with the results sent to your email. You may need several searches to cover all possibilities (power hoe, power ho, Bolens, Bolins). I've found some old, odd stuff that way including obsolete parts.

With patience you can let eBay do the work for you. I just bought an old Sears scissors jack using a search that way. The old ones had the strength and height to pick up a loaded one ton truck. I use that method constantly even to buy something that's available in stores but I don't want to pay full price.

You can also use a search engine to find all of the info on the internet using the terms "Bolens 12BB01" with or without using +parts as a modifier. This site has a bunch of links.to places that may have parts. I'm sure there are others.

If you can find someone on the internet that has a parts manual, get the part number to use in a search. I use that method to find auto parts all of the time. Just type in the part number by iself. Someone. somewhere may have the part in a bag or box but they don't know what it is. They'll list the part number and maybe the brand name. If you can get the part number use that in an eBay search too.

It might be worthwhile to find and buy a parts manual, if you have to, just to get the part number. I did that recently for an old Chevy truck. Having the parts catalog makes it simple to search the online parts sites.
