deer problems

i have a good friend who lives on a lake and some of the neighbors feed the deer. they are a real problem and she is getting kinda worried about it--they have no fear of her what so ever. i have seen her go out and yell maybe 20 feet away from them and they just look at her. she said they are getting closer to her when she is outside. dnr says they cant do anything about it but if it was bear they surely would. neighbors wont stop feeding them and they are all close enough where she cant shoot them. any ideas????

their son lives next door and has a dog--doesnt scare them. up there if a dog gets caught chasing deer they get shot on the spot. so the dog is kenneled but its right where the deer are

You've obviously never been kicked by a ticked off doe or been gored by a buck in heat or just plain bad mood. Any wild animal that is not afraid of humans is dangerous.

she has tried the slingshot and it doesnt seem to phase them much. dont know how good of a shot she is. she said she thru a big stick at them today and hit them and they still didnt run off--they moved away a little but came right back. the only thing i could think of was to call dnr again and tell them how close they do get and how unafraid they are getting. like i said if it was a bear they wouldnt have that attitude. i guess it was kinda funny at first but like Batt said they are a wild animal and they should be showing some fear.

Firecrackers or a gun fired into the ground might teach them some respect. Permit a couple of bow hunters to take a few in season.

Maybe she could try spraying them with a long distance water gun filled with half water half vinegar. That works to drive off curious bears that are getting too nosey, it ought to have a similar effect on deer if they get a snoot full of that in the face.

I bet one those pump up pellet guns and a good aim would do wonders . Just be ware enough pumps and the right spot could be embarrassing as in dead deer

Our DD has a motion activated sprinkler that the deer hate! Keeps them out of her garden.

There are some ideas coming to my mind but most of them have a crock pot in them.

Pepper spray applied to the plants in your yard will give them no reason to hang around. Make friends with some hunters tho if that's allowed.

I think this problem puts your "good friend" into a catch-22. Only because the deer feeding neighbors may blow her in to the authorities if'n she uses some of the suggestions offered.
Although, I'm more in line with Wind in Her Hair's line of thinking.....
But then here in NY we have laws against feeding the deer.

Pepper spray in the face of the deer WILL cause it to leave.

The way I heard the story the deer were acting aggressive and she can't go out in her yard.

I would put the rocks to them. She needs to practice pitching anyway.

Sounds like she needs to move somewhere where she's not surrounded by morons.
