Your winter predictions in your area?

Seeing that I've already saw my first Wooly Bear on July 28, 2012, 1 month earlier than last year:

Your winter predictions in your area? - Homesteading Questions

Have been smelling skunks frequently, lots of raccoon kill on the road and the mice problem we're having I think winter will be coming early and will be cold!

I can feel fall in the air. I think it's going to be a really snowy winter.

I'm one of those crazy people who wish for snow. So I'm predicting an early, snowy winter (which will all but guarantee a repeat of last year's snowless, warm one).

I go buy The Farmer's Almanac. It's calling for snow in mid-September and a repeat of last year. Baah!

And I'm one of those crazier people that wish for COLD!! With the past two of three winters being short and quite warm, I'm not going to predict. But, I spend as much time as possible ice fishing, so the colder, the better, and the less snow to have to deal with, even better! C'mon hardwater!!

Our neighbor told us the leaves here started falling a month early this year (we only moved in last October).

We were just out picking up willow limbs late yesterday and although we've just finished mowing the place, there's already a pretty good carpet of leaves on the ground again.

I may just be imagining it since I am hating this triple degree heat, but I think we're going to have an early winter. We'll know here pretty soon.

I think so too.
I hope so. I do much better in the cold than the heat.

We have a lot of leaf fall here, too, but I think it's due to stress from the heat and drought. Not all trees are doing it - just certain varieties which are probably more sensitive to the extreme conditions. Things have grown/ripened/declined a month early here, too, but then spring arrived a month early with March temperatures in the 80's and no snow whatsoever through the winter. So, it will be interesting if this is indicative of an early winter or not!

This is such a hard one to predict here since summer has been in drought conditions. The animals and insects are out searching for H2O and the trees and such are lacking as well.

acorns are falling already in connecticut. MIL's lawn is covered, found that out the hard way, walking barefoot through her long grass, ouch!

personally i hope it's a repeat of last year, our roof is on it's last legs and we are trying to sell so a mild winter would be wecome here.

I don't know how to predict winter but my dad has said that he thinks it's going to be a booger of one. It's still been so hot here that Fall seems a long ways off let alone Winter.

I'm torn between really wishing for a cold, snowy winter (I'm a snow bunny!!!) and wanting something slightly milder (but still definitely winter!). Reason being, we just moved to our farm a month ago, have a few livestock, and no hay as of right now! We have leads on where to get some but are waiting to hear back to know for sure. I figure, if I get all my proverbial ducks in a row and am ready for a harsh winter, it'll be mild. But let me slack off or be unable to prepare well?? Oh man... You know it'll snow then! :P

DH and I were just noticing last evening that the starlings are gathering up into huge flocks already -- something we don't usually see until late September.

It will be cold, with a lot of snow. Always has been, always will be. It is easy to forecast our winters... LOL

As it has been for the past couple of years, it seems that the seasons are a month sooner. I don't have a predictions, but I'm praying for a VERY snowy winter. We need quite a few deep snows to get the moisture back in the ground, and a LONG hard freeze to kill off the explosion of bugs we're seeing this year.
