When I first started canning, I wouldn't use lids more than a couple years old. Lately I've been known to actually reuse lids, though only for things I'll be using soon, or for milk, which I feed to livestock. But I've had a pretty good seal rate, even with old, used lids.

So, yes, I'd use them.

As long as they aren't rusted, I'd use them in a heartbeat

Yes - just wash them up. We save old lids (not rusted ones) to use for dry items. We dry peppers and herbs and the old lids can be used since they do not have to seal.

I'd test first by canning a few jars of water to see if they sealed okay, but if so then I'd definitely use them! If they didn't seal properly, they could still be used for storing dry goods as Meanwhile said. Great find, as prices now are ridiculous!

Rubber can perish..check the seal ring of each one before you pop it on to make sure the rubber looks good and you'll be fine.

Of course, discard any with rust.

We bought our house in 2001. While walking through with the previous owner I made a comment about the canning jars on a shelf in the garage. He asked me if I canned, and if I wanted the jars as his wife didn't can anymore. When we moved in I found the jars, plus a large cardboard box of rings, and about 1 1/2 dozen boxes of lids. The rings were mostly rusted and dented, so I tossed them, but have been using the jars and lids with no problems (I don't can a lot, and had some lids of my own already, so I am still using their old lids - at least 10 years old; most likely quite a bit more)

The wife was looking for jars and I found a CL ad for 28 cases for 100$ went to look at them and he had a double deck pressure canner $40 and a large box full of tops and rings. He also threw in a half dozen 1/2 gallon jars to boot. Almost couldn't get them all in the car.
went crazy canning from the garden already 40 pints of beans 14 pints salsa 22 pint speg sauce and 4 gallons on the stove as i type.
Our garden might be done by the end of the month this is sure a weird year

No, you shouldn't use them! I will give you our FedEx account and you can ship them all to me!
