Cobwebs in the barn
Do you leave yours up to catch the flies? or do you take them down? I just noticed I have quite the assortment of webs in my goat shed
If you take them out, what do you use? I don't want spiders dropping on my head.

ShopVac with 4 extensions. I have a smaller one so I can stand on a ladder and get the webs that are high up.

I use a broom to knock them down a couple times a years-usually have to wear goggles/mask as dust gets pretty bad & stuff falls in my eyes~~

In the barn or anywhere, it's just in my nature to clean the cobwebs whenever I see them.
I have a shop vac that I keep plugged in in the walkway right inside the barn door for the floor wall and ceiling that I can reach.
I use a broom...a small area at a time...for as long as I can hold my breath...and then I get the heck out until the dust settles.
If you find me past out in the barn you'll know what I was doing.

Don't do what DH and his friend did. Came home one day, friends's truck was in the driveway but they were nowhere in sight. There was a funny smell in the house. Heard something in the basement, went down there to find them both with propane torches, burning the cobwebs. Apparently they burn really quick, they just just about evaporate, so you can keep the flame moving and not catch the wood on fire. It worked, but it stunk and made me nervous to see them running torches so close to all that old dry wood. Never again, now use the shop vac.

Leave them up. Spiders are some of my favorite my minions.

For goodness sake, leave them up - if you actually see a spider, her name is Charlotte - she likes barns. Talk gently to her!

I did see a spider catch and wrap up a fly so I wasnt sure whether to leave them up or not lol

I take them down with the shop vac. I bought some extra extensions at the thrift store and go through every few weeks, more in the fall. I once heard a fire marshal say that the biggest cause of barn fires was cobwebs and dusty fans.

I heard recently of a pet cat that was bitten by a brown recluse spider and was very sick. Had spent 2 1-week periods at the vet. It would seem that rabbits and goats should be protected from these spiders too.

Our webs get covered with dust, then they are usless for catching anything. Barn swallows keep the barn free from flys. I even see them swoop arround me when mowing the yard, scareing up bugs.

Too much work for so little reward.
Not worth the effort.

Recluse like to hide, not much of an open web builder. I was bit, checking under the edge of a dust ruffel on a bed, and yes, was very sick ,veniom attacked my Kidneys first.

I don't like spiders in the house, and it's an ongoing job to remove all spiders and their webs from this old house, but I leave them to do their thing outside.
