Enjoying the heatwave

yeah I know we are tired of the heat and lack of rain, but really there are some benefits to this weather. Some things that I have noticed:
1) when hanging a load of towels on the clothesline, they are dry by the time the last towel is hung and you can take back to the house.
2) Dont have to worry about mowing the yard, mine died weeks ago.
3)The dogs dont bark and run up and down the driveway when someone drives into the yard. Too hot to come out from under the deck.
4) Dogs never liked to get a bath but will fight to get wet when you water the garden to try and save it.
5) you really can get all your chores done by 8 am to get back in the house.

If you have noticed any other things that are a blessing from this heat please share it with the rest of us so we can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

1)!!!!! Lack of mosquitoes. For the first summer ever while living here, I am not covered in bug bites all summer long. I've had only all of 2 bites, and that was in they spring. LOVE IT! The mosquitoes were the only thing I disliked about summer. Now, summer is perfect.

Yep, I was gonna say less mosquitos, too. The area we live in, there are some BIG black ones that can leave a lump even on a horse or cow. Haven't seen any of those this year.

Less flies overall, I guess the cowpies dry out so fast the larvae don't survive to mature.

Also less horseflies, which is a real blessing because they don't breed in manure so good manure management doesn't help control them. And, they can fly a mile so pasture rotation doesn't help either.

I think we are getting somewhat acclimated to the heat, last night we were outside and it felt comfortable after the heat of the day, but the temp was still in the 90's.

Chickens are still laying, haven't noticed egg production drop off yet.

Humans survived for a looooong time before A/C was invented. Just work around the heat as best you can and this too shall pass.

We live 1000 feet from the Atlantic ocean so most of the time there is a breeze. So far this summer we have had some still days and temperatures reached the high 70's. This morning was thick fog which made the house cold and damp so I started a fire in the stove ! First time I have ever started a wood fire in a heating stove in July!! The coast of North America must be the only cool places left. Even a 1/4 mile inland from us it is very hot!!

Imrose! Not nice to brag that you got to build a fire when the rest of us are wilting! I would love some 70 degree days! Send that cool air down here.

I have noticed my dogs are quieter. They come in the house, hide under my desk and stay quiet. Usually they jump up and bark when they hear things but with this heat, they are quiet.

I've acclimated very well to the heat. Of course being a former desert rat, perhaps my tollorence for it is better. I cannot tollerate cold much though. Its funny, all the memories i have thinking back, I never remember being "too hot" ever, but I certainly remember being too cold!

The heat wave is supposed to end next week: highs in the low 90's.

Heat doesn't stop the skeeters, lack of water does. Hot here but still plenty of the little vermin.

I like not waiting for the shower to warm up. Just turn it on and hop in. The Cool water feels so good. I only let it warm up enough to suds up and then cool it back down.

I knew it was hot in your area, but since 2 is the only absolute on the list, it puts it in perspective.

Towels are ready in 2 hours, dogs love to go under the shed and trailer but will still challenge trespassers ( we live in a VERY remote area). Dogs ALLOW me to put water on their eyes to make ME feel better. 8am here is time to close windows and doors until 8pm/

We are wilted too, hitting the sack soon to get up at 5.

No trouble heating water in black hoses for our outdoor shower.

Bless you, pardner. 15 to 20 deg drop is around the corner.

We won't have to worry about what to do with any extra money next year- we'll be reseeding the entire property, replanting raspberries and fruit trees.

We don't have to haul in hay this year. Even if we did spend bookoo bucks on hay equipement and a year rebuilding a tractor.

We already have our fireworks for the election in Nov.

The chickens, sheep and cows aren't wasting muscle by walking to the pasture - they know it's not worth the walk. I guess you could call us a feed lot with an open gate.

And the people who are at the bottom get shoved even further down the totem pole. This heat is killer, and even ruining some people's livelihoods.

I'm getting an early start on Christmas projects? Lol. Seriously I am. I water late at night the garden, don't have to mow right now with the grass being dead. We still have mosquitoes & those pesky gnats but they aren't nearly as bad this year.
