More pics of "does anyone know what this was used for"?

Made it it the antique shop today and got some more pics today. This is about 8" long, 1" wide, with the slide about 3/8" wide and the hole about 1/2"
made of brass and is hollow. The turned down or up,(which way you look at it) is about 1". I am thinking it is a removeable handle for something that may get hot since it is hollow. While there I saw a tool that he said he carried around to shows for 15 years and that he could not get identified. Said he found it in a book and it was to shock wheat the same size bundle. Looked like a pair of tongs with a short handle to squeeze. Made all bundles the same size I guess? Anyone ever see one?

I used to have an old army cooking/mess kit that had a handle similiar to that. It was removeable so it wouldn't get hot when on the fire and fit a couple of different pots/pans. It also worked as a lock to hold the pans together when you nestled them.

I bet that's it! Now that you mention it, I had one similar. The handle was aluminum, though. Interesting idea to make one out of brass. Mine was double-walled like this brass one. Keeps it even cooler. The depression on one side is a thumb-divot. The extra bit of metal rivited on the middle on the opposite side was, as you said, a latch to keep the nested set locked together.

This is what I have been going with. I have a copper skillet (old) that has a handle that looks like it, but is attached.

Has to be someone out there that knows just what this was for or has used one? I will be disappointed if the homesteaders don't know.

I think its a handle off a old strop.

The divot/impression, is to secure the leather strap to the handle.

the clip and that ear may have secured something to the strop perhaps a sharpening stone.
and of coarse the hole was to hang it.

Look at the way the clip is designed, the bend at the top is a stop and then the clip and I'm willing to bet the ear has some spring to it to apply pressure and secure what ever clipped in it.
