We didn't even know how bad it was until we heard that lady on the local radio sunday night.

Normally I'd have had 10 or 15 spare gallons of gas. I still had 2 you coulda had.

We to had a very interesting week. Power went out Friday night about 9:PM and I hooked up the generator and it didn’t want to run to good it has been sitting for months anyway I put some dry gas in it and it stabilized and we had the use of the house. The next day I tried to get gas as I only had the tank on the generator with gas in it. I went to the local go mart which had electricity but the cash register needed to be reset and no one could figure out how to do it. Called them back at 3:30 AM and they had it up and running but it was cash only. Had a little cash and was able to get five gallons of gas. It kept us going.

The power cam on the next day (Saturday) around noon Low and behold it rained and thundered again and the power went out again at around 9 PM. Went to the Local Go Mart and got 30 gallons of gas and while I was there people were fighting for gas and someone tried to cut me off in the line. I couldn’t believe how people are. Any way we got through it and had power restored Tuesday at around Noon time.

I think I will horde about two fifty five gallon drums full of Gas for the future needs. Put in sta-bil and try to use it and replace it as I use it. We do have a non ethanol gas station not to far away and I think I will get non ethanol gas for storage.

We are going to get a tractor with a loader and a brush hog and a tiller.
We are going to have the meat freezer full and keep it that way. We have natural gas available and I am going to get a natural gas generator for back up.

A m confused over how long you can keep gas with the stabilzer in it ?? And where do you store a l00 gallons of gas without it "blowing up" ?? Noticed on TV this AM that people are complaining about the electric company not getting to them to restore it. I..know.. what that is like but why beat up the workers. Just another sign to me, of how Scarey...

Hi Helena
You can store gasoline for about 2 years if there is no ethanol in it.
There is an additive you can add to gasoline to help prolong it useful life. It is called sta-bil.
I just thought that with my car and the generator I might be wise to put a little gas aside for a power event. I used about 20 gallons this time and but about 40 gallons in the truck.
