I read the story at the link and also looked at the video from the Tulsa newscast. Sounds like she has a good case. They tore up her yard BEFORE her day in court.

The charges were dismissed for her garden, but it was too late, it was already gone. It also mentioned she pleaded no contest to having a junk vehicle on the property. One moral of the story - if you live in city limits and have neighbors, try to make your garden pretty so they won't complain!! That was the start of the whole chain of events -a complaint from a neighbor.

They are bad about things like this in the Urban areas here. Code enforcement officers get complaints and have to work them - apparently some people's neighbors don't have anything better to do than complain about their neighbors.
Just one more reason NOT to live in the city if you don't have to. I hope this lady has a good lawyer and sues the pants off the city for that!

I have a guy I go to plasma donation with. Hes a drunk. Anyway, he had a pile of wood next to and laying on his gas meter. They told him to move it. He told them he had it sold and had to get it sawed up. he hasnt got a saw. They waited a week and told him again. He said the same thing again. Next monday they told him to move it or get a $500 fine and 90 days in jail. He said his pickup needed brakes and he couldnt get them on right then. They said if he paid $38 he could get a 2 week extension. He paid. He got it finally moved to the back of his house. THEN CE came over and told him, that he had 6 vehicles in his yard. He would either have to concrete the yard, or move the vehicles. hew moved them. MAYBE, If he hadnt whizzed off the gas meter guy, Nonna the rest woulda happened.

This is one reason I moved out of Town.According to Ordinates I could have Chickens and Small Animals.

Well I had Rabbits,Chickens and couple Dogs, plus Raised Beds and Compost Bins.

Me and the Mayors Brother were neighbors,he kept calling the city on me.One time City Marshall Handcuffed me just to question me on my Chickens.I explained to him I had a bunch to butcher and was going to keep a few for Eggs.Well I butchered and cleaned things up.City Marshall told neighbor there wasn't anything he could do.

Well after years neighbor bought me out at my price.Went to visit after he had Dozed everything down.He tried telling me because of the Raised Beds and Compost Bins DNR had him remove soil and replace it.YEA RIGHT!

Oh well I came out ahead GF gave the place to me I lived there for years and made a bunch.

Springfield Missouri, I had to go to a hearing with five big wheels from the city, we all waisted two hours to determan that garlic chives are food.
I confess they were over the city's limit of 12 inches tall.

Yep, it starts with the NIMBY's, then the "authorities" with their ordinances, zoning laws and such. Then it's the maze craze with the township tied to a village, town or city, county and state with different interpretations of said ordinances, zoning, etc. and the conflicts therein.

Ignorance does not discriminate and is on both sides of the fence, as it were.

When I lived in St. Paul, I had a neighbor who filed complaints against me. One time, in response to his complaint, the city said I had to finish building my addition, re-roof the house, and tear down the garage and I had 2 weeks to do it. The next time he complained, the city ordered me to move a boat from alongside the house. His next complaint was that I had too much gasoline in my garage so the city wrote me up for that.

Then I found out who was doing the complaining. We had words and after trying to reason with him I finally stated that for every complaint I got, he would get one. I never had another complaint.

He did state that he wanted to replace the hedge between our properties and I should pay half. I declined, just to be difficult. Then I got notices from the group that is trying to eliminate buckthorn even though the hedge wasn't buckthorn. After a few years he poisoned the hedge. The side facing his property died. In the spring the side facing my property came back so he poisoned it again. When it was dead he asked if he could remove it and put in a new hedge. He did it at his own expense. I get some satisfaction knowing that he stewed about the hedge for several years and wound up paying to have it replaced.

This is one reason I was happy to move out of the city.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. It's all about money.

From the white house to the out house, this is how business is done. I sure hope that she gets some "cabbage" out of the deal.

I haven't seen a list of what the plants were. I wonder if I could fill my lot with burdock and thistles and claim that it's an edible and medicinal garden.
