frost?
Well another frost is in the forcast here tonight for Michigan, we lost all of our fruit tree blossoms already and now the grapes, berries and other things are growing and if we get frost we'll likely loose everything but cold lovers like greens and peas.

Look at the bright side. No fruit to pick, clean, and preserve. No income taxes to pay next April.
Do they use smuge pots any more? Seen an apple orchard near here with a row of fires burning along the upwind side of the orchard a few weeks ago on a frosty morning.

I heard some farmers were burning round bales in the orchards--don't know if it did any good.

So sorry to hear that!
Where are you that it's going to frost? UP? The Thumb? Glad I haven't pushed to get my garden in yet.

central lower, ring finger, but it is pretty much the entire LP and UP..except water and far s.
they have us at 30 tonight
My fruit crops WERE my groceries for this year..this means we'll have to try to find enough $ to BUY food this year rather than feed ourselves from our garden.

I'm so sorry, Brenda. What a crummy way to start the growing season.
Better put in more peas and cole crops. May as well get them while the weather's good for them.

Sorry to hear you're losing much needed crops . I saw on the weather channel a couple days ago it was snowing in the northern Idaho & north western Montana area . Lisa in northern Idaho probably had snow . Seems really strange since it's been in the 90's here in WV .

I would love to swap a little of this 96 degree 95% humidity for half of your cool temps. Maybe we could average it out to a nice 62 degrees.
I cannot get enough water into my garden right now....lucky to keep a few maters alive.

Wow....we didn't come close to a frost last night. Gotta love it when it's 90 one day and 68 the next. We did have some dew on the grass this morning for the first time in a week. We're very dry.
In my county, the orchards used water sprinklers to hold off the frost. One orchard goofed and they covered their peach trees in ice. I see some red on some of the cherry trees that I drive by every day. I hope they are pie cherries! My grapes are staring to bloom as well as the blackberries and blackraspberries. I picked my first ripe strawberries today.

So sorry to hear about your food losses. This is a huge blow. Hang in there.

It only went down to 42 here after I spent over two hours getting everything covered last evening. I don't remember when the weather people last got it right.

But if you hadn't covered it would have touched 31.

It feels like 31 out there today. You'd think once it hits above 90, the danger of frost would be past. We're gtting a touch of rain today.

I'm lucky... so far, the frost hasn't really hit me *yet*.
Last night, it only went down to 40 here.

I always consider that when I cover everything, it's insurance that we won't get frost. lol I guess, the neighbors can thank me. If I didn't cover, then we'd have been hit with a hard frost.

Just a hint ,might help. String your christmas lights(not LED) along your rows or on your fruit, cover with sheets ect and plug in. It helps to keep crops a little warmer.
