Another Old Ford Tractor ?

Differential grease is leaking out one end of the rear axle shaft & getting on the brake shoes on that side . According to my repair manual each end of the axle shaft has an inner & outer oil seal . According to the manual it appears to be quite a job to replace the inner seal but not the outer .
Anyone have any experience with solving this problem by just replacing the outer seal ? I don't want to tear into it twice but if there is a good chance that just replacing the outer seal would solve the problem I'd try that first . T I A

Hey "WV Hillbilly" What model of Ford tractor are we talking about here? Seals can be replaced, and in some case a thing called a "sureseal" can be added to some models. but post back with the model and year.

If it got past the inner seal........ it needs replacing. The nice thing about big jobs is they yeild big results. Half done jobs........ well do the math!

It is a Ford model 800 & from what I've read they were just made in 1955 , 56 & 57 .
