Site with ideas for landscape timbers

About.com: http://www.railwaysleeper.com/Customers%20ideas,%20photos%20and%20projects.htm

Doing research for a retaining wall DH and I are trying to construct I found this site that has tons of ideas for 'railway sleepers' (it's a UK site) which I think translates to landscape timbers. Anyway, walls, steps, bridges, ponds.....even furniture, some amateur and some pretty awesome.

I thought someone here might get a useful idea or two off of it.

Those are "railroad ties", not what is generally sold as "landscape timbers". which are only about 2.5 X 3.5 inches
They are much larger, around 7 X 9 inches, and would be great for retaining walls.

problem with rail road ties is they are generally treated with some nasty stuff to insure a long life. it leaches out and causes contamination...

After several years many types of stinging, flying critters m

ake nests in them. You may have to spray yearly to keep them away.

The sight gives some nice ideas for things to build.

RR ties are definately not landscape timbers..they are usually 10 in x 10 in and soaked in creosote, but would make a good retaining wall
