Nettle Tea

Anything I should know about nettle tea before I decide to make some? The things grow wild all over the place here and I've heard several people use it for tea. Do you use the leaves? Do you use em fresh or dried? If it's too strong will I go bling, poo myself, wet the bed, stub my toe...

I enjoy drinking nettle tea, tastes very nice imo.

Its been a while since I researched it but the warnings arn't too severe. Warnings

I pick my nettles carefully and let them dry naturally. Once dry, I strip the leaves and store for use.

Wear some gloves.
Lay them in the shade to dry. Don't dry them in the sun.
Don't use as much as you think you need for tea. You would end up with nettle broth which is a bit...strong and thick.

I love to mix it with peppermint tea for summer sipping, but it goes great with any other tea. I prefer to drink it with cranberry juice. I can make the tea stronger if I am cutting it with cranberry.

And you can eat the stuff too. I like it in salads, on sandwiches and pizzas. You can use it as you would spinach or chard. Makes great quiche and great lasagna!! Wonderful, wonderful if added to a rich potato soup.

Nettle has a strong flavor compared to most of the more common wild tea leaves.
I prefer all my wild tea made from dried leaves, flowers, etc.....save for pine. Pine needle tea tastes best, to me, in the green.

Be careful drinking too much nettle tea at the start.
The stuff can make one prone to blurting out smart-*** comments on political chat forums.

Boy I tell ya, drink this stuff if you have sore and stiff joints. I have knee problems, and I drink this stuff a lot, I also juice the leaves and drink that also. You can also pick the leaves and wash, throw them in a frying pan with some garlic and olive oil, maybe some bacon bits and you got your self a good eatin bunch of greens. Just cook them till they are wilted , kinda like cooked spinich. I have never had any problems with drinking this stuff, except maybe what Forerunner said. And it will help right away, won`t take two days to help, maybe two hours, but this stuff works. > Thanks Marc

It was a medical condition! Wonder if I can use that as a defense...

I am fixing to make up my first small batch right now. My son and daughter helped me pick a ton of leaves and are itching to try the stuff so I wanted to do a safety check first.

We're drinking it now. Not too bad. I added a little orange peel because the kids really like it sweetened with raw honey. They will be going to bed in 20 minutes, hope nettle doesn't make them hyper!

I learned all I know from reading. I love to learn new things and am a big history fan. (Note I said fan not geek, I don't have key dates memorized or anything) So, reading what has happened and contrasting it to what is happening plus adding a little brain power is pretty much the secret.

I didn't not hear what happened in Ok. as I was pretty much in a shell today. There was drinking and screwing around but no work or serious news.

I read propaganda everyday, sometimes right here on HT. Or is it a book or something you're talking about?
