Sooooeeeeeee

In case ya haven't heard we had a drought down here in Texas. My tanks dried up and the guy rentin my pasture sold off his cows. Then the rains came. That Mesquite thicket is somewhat green, vegetation is about two feet tall.

I just drove a man down there that works for a pipeline project, got to lower tank and jumped a whole herd of feral hogs. I counted, best as I could 4 or 5 grown and 10 to 12 in the 50 to 75 pound range.

Called a buddy, gonna bring a trap over, called the renter and left a message with his wife to that effect. I'm thinking there is gonna be some meat put up around here.

I hope you have as good of Luck as I had---I caught 8 in just a few weeks, put 3 1/2 of them in my freezer----I have not seen any more hogs or sign around my farm since---I also do not have the trap baited/set any more, But if I seen sign of another hog It would be set again. Good Luck!

Traps only catch the young and the dumb ones. The smart ones who are boars are what you gotta watch out. Best way to get those are with dogs and some people aren't comfortable doing that. Dogs that are trained for that kind of thing are really tough dogs with good noses.

Ted, I understand that, but gonna do what we can. Buddy is set up on a place the other side of the county, said he would set trap and set up feeder to bait with as well, we will see what we can do.

I know you are a hog hunter, what would you reccommend in a rifle. Rough, lots of brush, most shots 75 yards or less. I got a .30-30 and a .30-06. Later seems a bit much to me.
