Solar powered gate.

I just purchased my dream property finally, and was wondering if anyone has used a solar powered gate opener. The entrance to my property has no power near by, and would like to have something to open and close the gate without having to get out. I live in Washington and kind of don't want to get wet all the time opening and closing the gate.

With all the cloud cover you folks have up there I think you would have to have lots of battery storage.

I have one. Two deep cycle marine batteries power the armature that opens and closes the gate. My gate weighs 350 pounds. It handles it fine most of the time. That said, you'll be happier with a lighter gate, and make sure it is installed correctly. If the gate isn't perfectly balanced, you'll spend some time fiddling.

We had this problem in winter. We mostly just keep the gate open. Keeping the gate closed seemed more important when we first came here ten years ago, but we just found it unnecessary the longer we were here.

We have one that keeps a battery charged and we have to replace the battery about every 5 years. Love my gate. Don't have to get out in the rain and open it. Uses a thingy like a garage opner.

Sounds about right, thanks for the information. Living in Washington state all my life. You would think I would be used to it by now. Will definitely put one on my gate. The majority seem to be happy with them.
