Gas, Charcoal, or Wood?

Which do you prefer when grilling? For me grilling is more about the primitive cooking than anything else so I prefer wood.

Very, very much prefer wood.

I have wood and like the flavor.

Don't want to pay for gas.

Commercial charcoal gives a weird taste to food.

I prefer wood but more times than not we use our gas grill. We've been grilling our lamb over pinon wood and it adds such an amazing flavor!

Charcoal, preferably the lump charcoal, for grilling. Wood for smoking. Apple, peach, pecan are all good.

Gas is convenient but just doesn't give the flavor.

You woodburners are all alike. You'll burn anything to fulfill your lusts. A good piece of wood that could be in furniture and stand proud of itself. But no. the Woodburners come along and rape and kll the furniture trees of the earth. How about all the CO2 that won't get eaten. Ever thinkabout that. Not you people. Let the earth warm and die. Pretty soon you wont need wood to burn the place will be so hot you can lay it on a rock.

electricity forever!!

LMAO! TO be fair I have all the pieces that were big enough to do anything with drying in the wood shed. It's just the scraps and branches I'm burning.

Did I tell you I am going to be cutting about 40-50 oaks for lumber before long I hope!! Lots of firewood too. But at least I do the green thing and cook with scraps from the shop.

I use apple from pruning our trees...gives a great smokey flavor.
Sometimes I use some Matchlight or Kingsford if I am not prepared.
Gas...NEVER! Might as well use the oven or range. Wasted meat.

We use mainly pecan, but have some apple and hickory too. I really like cooking with mesquite, but can't find any mesquite trees around here.

We have a nat Gas grill that gets used 120 + days a year. Never needs filling and it is as cheap as cooking inside. Charcoal is used under Dutch Ovens and wood when we are in the hills or for the smoker.

I consider it a real waste to burn charcoal or use gas over wood. Why? We get plenty of wood for bbq'ing with just pruning our fruit trees (lots of apple trees...). Of course, Alders grow like WEEDS on our property, and plenty hit the ground in the wind storms. So, yep, Salmon cooked on Alder, over Apple wood, doesn't get better than that! Also, kind of cool we can catch our own Salmon, use our own wood, but I admit we do use matches...
