Any 2 cyl JD specilists in here??

I got a 39 A. It was a basket case. I got it to pop once. I just got the mag back today. $160. How do I install it, OR Rather, Why cant I put the top wire on the L side, the bottom on the R, Install it and put the hammermill belt on it and on my 48 H Farnall and start it up. Put some gas in the carb and listen. If it dosent run reverse the mag??

Guy tried to tell me, AS BEST I could understand, to lay the mag on something up front. Find top dead center on L piston and run a wire from plug to top hole in mag. If it snaps or fires, or whatever hook it up at that point????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????

Thats got me lost/

Well if it was a 51 M i might be able to help but then again......
The JD 2 cyl experts if you can't find one here hang out over at
http://www.johnnypopper.com/forums/i...hp?showforum=1
might have to register if you haven't already.
I've gotten a good amount of help there in the past, forum is a tad slow sometime but usually some smarter than me is hanging around,
good luck with it.

Thanks for all the effort, BUT it just seems just about like what he said, just only in printed form.

I think I know what you are asking. If you haven't changed the governor or cam timing then you can do what you said. Put the mag on, check spark timing and tweak if it's out. If the carb is adjusted correctly and the mag should have good spark it should start fairly easy.

The fact that you got it to "pop" should mean you are pretty close.
Seems with mine you crank it with full choke and as soon as it pops i immediately have to
push the choke all the way in to get it to run.

I havnt done a thing with the carb yet. And, on the outside, its in RUSTY shape. The tanks off, The fans off. The rads off. I got oil in it, but thats it. I cant run it long without a radiator.

I wasnt going to do a thing to it untill I got it loose, as it wsas stuck. When I got it loose, I put the oil in it. I just got the mag fixed, and will put it on next week. If I can get it to run a minute dribbeling gas intyo the carb, Ill start getting the radiator round and get it mounted.
