Just as long as they don't put up that fake wood paneling that was so popular in many basement makeovers...

Underground cities have been around for centuries. I am all for it except for two issues. First, they should keep this project entirely controlled by private individuals. Second, they should use the $100,000 for an actual build instead of a mockup.

I think this is a very cool idea and, with private funding, this would be a really nice attraction.

It doesn't have to be like this, but Atlanta has had an "Underground" for years. Unfortunately, it turned into a crime-ridden, drug-infested disaster within a few years. I haven't been to Atlanta in quite a few years, but the last time I was there, it was virtually abandoned.

Hopefully, New York will have more success than Atlanta had.

I live in new york city. We do not need an underground park, it is just a waste of time and money. They made that Highline park on the old train tracks and it is interesting and people want to check it out, but ten years from now the novelty will wear off and the highline will just be falling apart and wasting money on upkeep.

Our city is almost bankrupt and they want to make a silly park.

The big city has made you cynical, CB. A greenspace would help to improve the quality of life. The project could be a huge success as long as it is managed by the right organization.

Not when the city is struggling to stay out of bankruptcy. Having money to pay for our police, fire, and sanitation forces is more important.

it is a cool idea though, but it would be better to build that at Disney World

Pipe dreams. It sounds like some idea cooked up by "artzy" yuppie folk. Lots of things sound good - but then when you actually go and try to implement them, you find that money can be a huge problem.

They have to come up with $100,000.00 just for the "Mini Lowline"? Well, if it costs $100,000.00 just to make a mock set up, how much do they think the real thing will cost?!? And if they are having trouble coming up with the $100,000.00, how easy do they think the money needed to build the real thing is going to be?

An underground park also sounds like a great place for illegal activity to go on. But I guess it won't be very easy to bury a body under the rocks and cobblestones.

This is along the line of colonizing the moon. Just a dream.

As long as there are no structural problems, the entire project could be done for free with donations and volunteers. The park could be a fabulous way to pull together a community and make it stronger. The downside and eventual destruction of the plan will be the interference of big money and government.

Raven, there really is no community here, just a huddle of rougues and refugees.

I admire your optimism, but I would be more impressed if the city fixed the pot holes and kept the streets swept and washed. Our subway system is a dump and it is going bankrupt. We use to have really trashed and run down subway cars when I was a kid and then in the 90's they started getting all these fancy new subway cars. I thought the city had finally climbed out of the financial crisis it was in when it hit bottom financially in the 70's, but the truth is that they just borrowed more money to pay for new subway cars. Now, they have a even fancier subway cars with computer screens and a computer announcer, god only knows who they borrowed the money from to buy those hunks of electrical junk....but at the same time they are shutting down train and subway services to communities that are not that wealthy, just to pinch some pennies.
