Laramie, Wyoming in May

I am going to geology field camp for six weeks in May-June. I need to find a place to stay in Laramie for 12-14 days during that time. I figure camping is the cheapest way to go, but I'm not sure how bad the weather might be.

I spend most summers up by Buffalo, but I don't know if Laramie differs much. I know that for Buffalo, May means pretty much anything from snow to 100 degrees and maybe all in the same day. Is Laramie just as variable?

Any suggestions on where to stay? Either camping or a cheap (but safe) hotel? We will be working out of U of WYO when we are there.

Thanks

Jena

...............Some KOA's have designated area's for tent camping , as well as rental cabins . I'd think the weather around Laramie in May at 7,000 feet MSL might be a little Dicey for tent camping . Your best bet might be to try and stay at a Bed n' Breakfast . The owners provide a level of personal service and caring you won't find in a regular motel\hotel . , fordy

Laramie isn't a lot different from Buffalo, though probably more wind.

I lived there for a while and can tell you that I wouldn't want to take my chances w/ May & early June weather in a tent. The travelodge is safe and cheap but it's not the Hilton. Several hotels in town offer weekly rates and the university has appartments you may be able to rent.

Laramie has a hugely different climate than Buffalo. I just moved from Sheridan, Wyo and have lived in Wyo for 25 years. I have been in Laramie in May and there is still snow on the sides of the streets in town and we have our gardens planted around Sheridan/Buffalo.
Expect the daytime temps to be in the 40's to 60's and nighttime in the teens and twenties. There is lotsa WIND in the Shirley basin, so figure for windchill even during the day. The sun is wicked at 7200 feet so bring lotsa sunscreen and quality sunglasses.

Depending when you are in Laramie, UW (we say U-dub in Wyoming) may be out for the year, so you may find a place to stay that is inexpensive. Call the Mad Carpenter Bed n Breakfast and talk to the owners. They have quite a few rentals and rooming situations besides the b&b... and if not, they may have some suggestions for ya! Great peoples!
